The laths are a race of beings made by fusing humans with fire elementals. As their history goes, a fire elemental by the name of Rathkash sought to establish his own sovereignty away from Kossuth's reign. Rathkash emerged from a minor door in the land of Eberron with others who were dissatisfied with Kossuth. Declaring himself king, one of the first things Rathkash did was try to incinerate all of the land to make it a kingdom of burned waste like his home. A group of legendary warriors were called to combat him and his destruction. Using a powerful spell of death, Rathkash and his army were shattered into halves, never to be whole again. These halves clung to life around it, particularly humans, and thus the lath were born.

Physical Qualities
Laths are beings that appear like humanoids with flame wreathing every inch of their bodies. They have a shimmering layer of heat on their bodies that show only the shadows of their faces. They are described to be like a candle or torch as they walk, flickering with each step. Laths have eyes that always reflect all-consuming fire. They can tamp their flames down at will, but never fully extinguish a thin coat on their skin. It is believed they may not have skin anymore due to the fusion.
Playing a Lath
Laths have a tendency to be chaotic due to the nature of their element. They tend to speak their minds scathingly when they disapprove, and they will act rashly upon impulse. However, being at least partially organic, they are able to feel emotions other than burning anger or hunger. When they explode over something, they may feel remorse over the damage they had done in the heat of the moment. Most laths today are aware of how volatile and dangerous they can be. Therefore, many laths are reluctant to get close to people. Some laths have an arrogant view of this, seeing creatures who are weak against fire to be the lowest of the low. Others take to the life of hermits and do not like to see people. For the laths that dare venture out of their own circles, keeping one's temper and emotion under check is one of the greatest tests.

Lath Adventurers
Laths hate to be confined. They value their speed above other strengths and would prefer to roam. Many laths may feel restricted in their lath communities, called bonfires. They thereby go out searching for the life they seek, likely one of thrill and no boredom.
Rogue: Rogue laths capitalize on their speed to avoid direct combat. They like to play tricksters usually, setting stuff on fire and all. Many laths go this way due to the nature of a rogue being a speedy hitter.
Sorcerer: Sorcerer laths are often dangerous, as they are usually very unstable in power. Laths sometimes seek greater power from their elemental side and thus try to master it through arcane magics. More often than not, this ends up making them maddened and overcome with power.
Binder: Binder laths are similar to sorcerers in seeking answers about their powers. However, they are wary to draw upon their own reserves, and so go about soliciting the power of others. Laths prefer not to be tied down to one patron, which is why they are more likely to be binders than warlocks.
Below are 3 examples of lath adventurers:
Igaoh is a lath sorcerer seeking to return to where he believes he belongs: in the Elemental Plane of Fire. Once, he had accidentally dropped into the Elemental Chaos, which touched him more than others could know. He felt more at home there than he did in the Material Realm. Using the guiding power of the arcane forces inside himself, he seeks another gate through which he can return to where he might belong. He has yet to find people with whom he feels quite as comfortable.
Darnaah is a lath binder bent on satisfying her appetite for power. After having seen how weak her flame is compared to that of a true fire elemental's, she had vowed to gain more power to surpass any and all in the world. It does not matter to her the tasks she must do to obtain power from powerful entities, be it steal, beg or borrow (and never return). She sees allies as a necessity insofar as they are pawns to aid her scheme.
Ghoah is a lath rogue who indulges in the human side of her life. She likes wearing clothes instead of burning them off, as well as pulling pranks on the occasional passerby in the city. The past of the laths and the problems it may bring her are nuisances she does not want in her life. She desires to have a life unrestrained by worry, to be able to do as she pleases. Adventuring made a call to her, which she saw as an escape from the mundane life that she was beginning to tire of.
