Kyoku (3.5e Race)

Kyoku

The Kyoku are a race with mysterious history and origins who have been seen in Faerune, and Oresia only in recent centuries.

Personality

The Kyoku are usually wary towards strangers due to living in an isolated plane for centuries. They are also prone to arrogance due to not having a competing race in the Suta-Shima plane to rebuke their claims of being the first, central, and divinely modelled race with the best empire. Most of the Kyoku that are able to leave the Suta-Shima plane are humbled when they discover that the extraplanar "barbarians" that they meet are more advanced or equally advanced as they are. After being humbled, A Kyoku can become an amiable, and scrupulous companion.

Physical Description

The Kyoku have perfectly black, and smooth skin. their bodies are usually built slender and tall with the average male being about six feet, and two inches, and weighing about 100-140lbs. The female Kyoku are generally shorter than the men and have pronounced feminine features. There are small bone protuberances extending from the shoulders of the Kyoku, leading some to believe that the Kyoku are a half breed of the Deeka. Extending from the forehead of the Kyoku is a long, upwards curving horn. This horn has a strange appearance as it is thin and wide (As if they had strapped an axe head to their forehead) rather than being approximately conical like other horns. This horn leads some to believe that the Kyoku are a half demon race. Their faces are usually very sleek looking with a long straight nose being a normal trait for the Kyoku, but the men usually have higher cheek bones than the women. Their eyes lack pupils and irises, with the entire eye being sclera. Common eye colors for Kyoku are green, purple, or blue. Their ears bear a resemblance to elven ears in that they are pointed, but the points of their ears can slope up or down. Common hair colors for Kyoku are white, silver, blond, and (rarely) light blue. Male Kyoku typically have darker shades of these colors than the females who generally have lighter shades. It is common for female Kyoku to leave their hair in long braids, while the men usually have shorter hair that they tie up in a bun called a chonmage.

Relations

The Kyoku are not prone to quickly making friends due to their arrogant outlook, which causes them to see other races as below them or barbaric. Once a Kyoku is humbled or opens his mind, they will favor friendships with races such as elves or humans, but the humbled Kyoku will generally befriend someone of any race if they are good, or lawful.

Alignment

The Kyoku are a race that generally favor lawful behavior. Their society puts emphasis on conformity, and duty, thus their tendency to be lawful. despite the influence of their society, Kyoku can be good or evil, but most Kyoku are inherently good, while a small few are born evil.

Lands

The Kyoku live in a land not known on normal maps as their entire island was put in a limbo state between the celestial and terrestrial planes, due to some sort of mysterious magic, which has caused the creation of their island's own small plane named after the island called the Suta-Shima plane. the Kyoku have only recently learned to navigate the fluid celestial energy that surrounds their island using spirit skiffs, but no-one has yet been able to safely navigate the stormy spirit fords that lead to the celestial, and terrestrial plane, But sometimes curious Kyoku explorers will drive their skiffs straight into spirit storms, never to be seen again...

Religion

The Kyoku worship many gods that resemble the gods of the terrestrial plane. This likely indicates that Kyoku adopted these gods when they were still a part of the terrestrial plane, but changed them over time during their isolation.

Language

All Kyoku know common (but it is an odd dialect that people from beyond the Suta-Shima plane sometimes find hard to understand). All Kyoku also know Celesial

The Kyoku use names that do not resemble any names used in the Terrestrial plane.

Common female names are: Chitsuyoi, Aifuru, Midorifita, and Soranori.
