Jiralhanae

"A bloody fate awaits you and the rest of your incompetent race, and I, Tartarus, Chieftain of the Brutes, will send you to it!”

Tartarus, Chieftain of the Brutes to the Sangheili Arbiter.

Physical Description

Tartarus, Chieftain of the Jiralhanae.

Brutes have features resembling a cross between a Gorilla, Rhino, and human. They stand around 8ft tall and weigh around 500 pounds. Their physique lends well to their typical employment as storm units. Their skin is tough and ranges from black to light gray. Coarse fur covers a majority of their body, taking shades of brown, gray, and occasionally white.

History

Despite their pension for battle, the Jiralhanae have a history of intelligence, culminating in a short escapade into space travel. However, similar to the rest of their history, the clans of the Jiralhanae hastily plunged into another civil war, reducing their society to ash. When they were discovered by the Covenant, a religious empire led by the San’Shyuum Prophets, they were quickly crushed, as their primitive radios and rockets couldn’t compare to the Covenant’s plasma weaponry and near instantaneous teleportation. Once they became a vassal race, they quickly rose through the ranks as useful tools of the prophets, only being outranked by the Sangheili.

Society

Before their inclusion in the Covenant, the Jiralhanae lived in a constant cycle of civil war. They lived in tribes ruled by the strongest. Their rule was unquestioned, save for constant challenges for their power. After they were absorbed, they became a vassal race. Despite ranking closely with the Sangheili, they held no seats on the High Council and were not permitted to serve on the honor guard. This division eventually culminated in the hostile excommunication of the Sangheili, though the destruction of the Covenant soon followed.

Jiralhanae Names

Jiralhanae names are genderless, and often resemble those of the romans, though this is purely coincidental. They receive two names, one is given at birth, often resembling the name of one of their parents. This is then replaced by one of their own choosing when they prove themselves in combat.

Names: Mrynozis, Hysasion, Facius, Bygyius, Bracktanus, Atriox, Cretus, Decimus, Gargantum, Tartarus.
