Ironwood (3.5e Equipment)
Ironwood
Ironwood is a rare type of wood that is renowned for its strength and durability, and recognized by its distinctive blue-grey coloration. Any wooden or mostly wooden item (bows, arrows, spears, etc.) of ironwood construction are considered masterwork due to the difficulty of working with the material. Ironwood is most famous for its use in composite bows, adding +1 damage for every two points strength enhancement the bow requires; however, due to it's unyielding nature, such bows require a minimum of +2 strength requirement, and standard bows are infeasible with ironwood. Crossbows constructed of ironwood deal +2 damage, but require a minimum +1 strength, or suffer an extended reloading time as the wielder struggles to ready the crossbow (Repeating Crossbows = move action; Hand and Light Crossbows = full-round action; Heavy crossbows = full-round + move action). Ironwood weighs half again the weight of normal wood.
Ironwood has 20 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 10.
