Iroic (3.5e Race)

Iroic

Personality

Iroic tend to be alert and busy people, always finding something to occupy themselves. They are skilled craftsmen and apothecaries. Most are friendly and warm to each other but bitter and curt with outsiders. They often dodge questions and don't like being addressed directly unless they initiate it. Family bonds are strong, and they can recognize shared blood instantly even if they have never previously met. They are strict to their religion and their tribal laws, believing strongly in "an eye for an eye" and that all debts must be swiftly repaid.

Physical Description

The Iroic are a wild people, dressing in hides and bone while living as hunter/gatherers in the lowlands. They are typically well-built, strong people with dark eyes and pinto-patterned skin in shades of brown and tan. They have long quills overlapping their hair which are religiously dyed with streaks of bright color. Warriors practice scarification to decorate their skin and show their battle prowess, while priests/sorcerers of the tribe dye their skin with flowing patterns of warpaint.

Relations

Bad. In their native land they were branded as heathens and enslaved by settlers moving into their territory, and this has left them with a strong distrust of foreigners. The remaining wild tribes have a strong hatred of outsiders, but the children of the enslaved may be more tolerant should they find themselves freed/escaped.

Alignment

Any within one step of their deity.

Lands

Iroic are a nomadic people, with their original homeland being the foothills and forests along the base of a great mountain range. They are skilled at navigating taiga forests and mountains and can do so with ease. Hunting parties sometimes would travel into the plains below in search of big game, but most dislike the little coverage open plains give.

Religion

Iroic religion is very strict. They used to revel in the corruption and dark pleasures from the old gods, but with their presence ever-fading many tribes have since moved on to other deities. Modern Iroic tribes worship their own tribal gods, especially their god of the sun. They refuse to praise the "civilized" gods (and scorn those who do) as they view them as dishonorable for “replacing” the old gods. The most common practice is to streak ones hair/spines with brightly colored dyes meant to represent devotion and confidence in whatever tribal deity they hold. Many tribes hold daily rituals to welcome the sunrise and enjoy long hours of meditation. Defectors are often cast out of the tribes quickly as they are believed to bring the wrath of the gods if they remain with the faithful.

Language

Tribal Iroic, Common. Many wild Iroic do not bother learning any outsider languages at all.

Children are named by the chieftain of their tribe on their fifth birthday. Before this they are simply known as their parents "little one". Names are not restricted by gender and largely given based on the child's personality.

gollark: Maybe I should replace the UI of my web application™ with an in-browser xterm terminal.

gollark: maybe.
