A hook sword is a light sword with a hooked tip, a sharpened hilt, and a substantial crescent guard which can block or slash. A single hook sword can be used to disarm a foe or be used defensively in the off-hand.

Usually hook swords are used as a pair, and an adept warrior can link together their hooks for a slashing attack with extended reach.

Defensive

A hook sword grants you a +1 bonus to AC while you wield it in one hand and wield another melee weapon in your other hand. Wielding more than one defensive weapon does not increase this bonus. To gain this benefit, you need not attack with the hook sword weapon, but you must be proficient with it.

Off-Hand

A hook sword is light enough that you can hold it and attack effectively with it while holding a weapon in your main hand. You can’t attack with both weapons in the same turn, unless you have a power that lets you do so, but you can attack with either weapon.

Disarming

You can use a hook sword to make a disarm attack.

Link

If you are wielding two hook swords, when you make an attack with one of them you can choose to link them together. If you do this the hook sword you are attacking with is considered to have reach: It can attack enemies that are 2 squares away from you as well as adjacent enemies, with no attack penalty. You can still make opportunity attacks only against adjacent enemies. Likewise, you can flank only an adjacent enemy.

The hook swords are linked until the start of your next turn. While they are linked, you do not benefit from their defensive or disarm properties.
