Gukin (3.5e Race)

Gukin

Personality

The Gukin are, at their core, a curious species. They commonly value learning at the cost of all else, and are both accomplished scientists and explorers. This curiosity pairs with a natural wanderlust to spread the Gukin over hundreds of worlds both civilized and otherwise, and often leads them to ends that could otherwise have been easily avoided.

Physical Description

The Gukin people have a wide range of varying appearances borne by their numerous subspecies. The most obviously shared trait, however, is their striking similarity to apes and monkeys. Although bidedal and humanoid, they vary greatly in size between subspecies, and some will possess prehensile tails, while others will not.

Relations

The Gukin have a reputation as one of the more eccentric, but generally harmless species of Crosbhothana. Most other species see the explorers of the Gukin that show a great interest in the cultures, histories, and worlds of other races, ingratiating the race with others. This friendly interest, however, is often offset by the compulsive obsession with hygiene and cleanliness that commonly has a Gukin invading the personal space of another person for the sake of the other person's hygiene. While some appreciate the curiosity and intellectual hunger of the Gukin, still more don't appreciate their disregard for personal space, and occasional recklessness.

An insulted Gukin is also quite likely to fling dirt or feces at his offender, which is a practice looked down upon by most civilized races.

Alignment

Gukin are often morally gray and can be of any alignment. They tend to lean toward lawful due to their obsession with hygiene, but their love of learning and exploration can sometimes lend itself to a proclivity for the chaotic.

Lands

The Gukin people hail from the world Duruna. Once a lush jungle world, Duruna is now a near-continuous cityscape nestled in a haze of smog. Though the Gukin are capable of space-travel, they have forgone the practice in favor of the portals of Crosbhothana.

Religion

The Gukin are mostly secular in nature. While some small religious groups have come and gone, there has been no widely recognized deity worshipped by the race as a whole. They do, however, find the religions of other races intriguing.

Language

The Gukin are capable of learning most languages and nearly every member of the species has at least a working knowledge of the common tongue. Their own language, Durunan, sees less use now due to the wanderlust that pervades the species.

gollark: Okay, so there might be difficulties in running cables really long distances, but we did it with fibre-optic lines and there are always the quantum rings.
gollark: And the autocrafting solver's pretty good.
gollark: It's basically the fastest way to move items with clever subnetting.
gollark: Yes?
gollark: Me too. I would just switch all logistics to Applied Energistics.
