Grimmsnarl (5e Race)

Grimmsnarl

Physical Description

A Grimmsnarl Source

Grimmsnarl are green-skinned, humanoid creatures with most of its body covered in dark purple hair, except part of its face, its abdomen, its feet and a small red patch on its chest. It sports large crescent-shaped ears with red insides. Its long, sharp nose points upward and has a single long red nostril. It has a blue tongue and six teeth protruding from its mouth, the front four of which are flat, two on each jaw, while its upper jaw also has one sharp fang on each side. It has white eyes with red irises and black pupils, and grey eyelids. Its face ends in a small pointy chin and its hands and feet end in three digits.

Though extremely rare, instead of its usual dark purple hair and green skin, some Grimmsnarl are known to have white hair, purple skin, and a small blue patch on their chest.

History

Grimmsnarl, along with their Impidimp and Morgrem young, were first discovered in the forests and mountains of the Galar region.

Before becoming the powerful and feared fiend-like creatures they are known for being, Grimmsnarl start off as Impidimp. Impidimp are tiny, imp-like creatures with small, pink bodies and large heads, upon which is a tuft of hair that resembles bat wings. On their face is a purple marking that looks like a mask. These mischievous little monsters love making life miserable for people, and their favorite way to do this is to break into homes and steal things. They do this to feed off negative emotions, which they inhale through their single-nostriled nose.

As the years go and the Impidimp continues absorbing negative emotions, its body grows and so does its hair, resulting in the tiny Impidimp growing into a Morgrem. It grows a little over a foot taller, and its hair grows longer ending in a shape resembling a polearm. Half of its body retains its original pinkish color, though it is now a bit darker, while from the waist down it has taken on a green color. While Morgrem pull mischievous pranks and feed of negative emotions, they grow a more violent and malevolent in their deeds. They often try to lure their victims into the woods, where they act vulnerable and get on all fours as if to beg for forgiveness only to attack the victim while its guard is down by using its spear-like hair to stab them.

Eventually, the Morgrem grows taller and its hair grows even longer, and it wraps its hair all around its lithe body. Doing this increases the strength of the now developed Grimmsnarl immensely, so much so that it can even overpower Machamp. It can also use its hair to ensnare opponents as tentacles would. Oddly enough, despite their fiendish appearance, research has shown Grimmsnarl are actually more related to goblinoids like goblins and bugbears, and even giants such as ogres, than they are associated with fiends. Further research suggests some hints of fey blood in them.

Thanks to the Dynamax phenomenon, some Grimmsnarl can undergo a Gigantamax transformation when exposed to large quantities of Dynamax energy. This form looks much the same as its normal form, but it grows to colossal size, its limbs become longer, and its hair completely covers its body with only its face exposed. The hair on its head seems to float upward, and the hair that wraps around its feet can act as powerful drills. Legends tell of Gigantamax Grimmsnarl using its dark powers to lull those who attempted to attack it to sleep before destroying them.

Society

While Impidimp and Morgrem tend to be reclusive, they will sometimes band together to pull large-scale pranks. Grimmsnarl, on the other hand, might band together if a big enough threat forces them to do so. It is rumored that they serve under Hatterene, and that they are often summoned by them as familiars and bodyguards, though this is inconclusive. Grimmsnarl are almost never found in human society due to their chaotic nature, although some farmers might seek them or Morgrem out as it is believed that they can help plants grow while others seek them out to make pacts with believing that they are actually fiends.

gollark: Minecraft is just terribly programmed.
gollark: I'm hoping an update of the software and restarting it should fix it, but it had *better* not make a habit of this.
gollark: My webserver seems to have decided to stop webserving and just has some cryptic error about goroutines and a stack trace. What joy.
gollark: The bug (at least in the form everyone was using) was affecting iOS.
gollark: It's not a kernel one, it's in their text rendering library.
