Graverobber (5e Subclass)

Graverobber

The graverobber subclass is available to rogues at 3rd level.

You believe wealth is better spent on the living than the dead, and often find burial sites to be easy pickings. Unfortunately, ancient tombs and mausoleums can sometimes house as much danger as treasure. At some point in your graverobbing career, you came across something that should have remained buried. It may have been a botched phylactery, a malfunctioning magic jar, a tear in the planes leading to the Abyss, or some other powerful locus of undeath. Whatever it was, it tore at the connection between your body and soul. While getting used to this weakened connection, you learned to connect to more bodies than just your own.

Tomb Raider

When you pick this class at 3rd level, your experience with the wealthy deceased has honed your skills when plundering tombs and mausoleums. You gain advantage on Perception and Investigation checks to locate and examine hidden passages, compartments, and traps while underground or in buildings made of stone.

Conscript the Dead

Also at 3rd level, you have learned how to use corpses as disposable laborers. You may cast animate dead once without using a spell slot with the following alteration:

  • When you cast animate dead using this feature, the undead minion remains under your control indefinitely unless you animate another one using this feature.

You may control two at a time with this feature starting at 13th level. You regain your expended use of this feature when you finish a long rest.

Familiar Minions

At 9th level, you have learned to swap corporeal connections. While a minion you control with Conscript the Dead is within 100 feet of you, you may use an action to perceive the world through their senses, hearing and seeing what they can. Doing so allows you to control them with greater precision, granting them your tool and skill proficiencies for as long as you continue perceiving the world through them. During this time, you are blind and deaf with regard to your own senses.

Hidden Tether

Starting at 13th level, simple-minded undead can no longer sense your body's connection to life. Undead with an Intelligence of 7 or lower that would otherwise be hostile to your presence ignore you and the undead minions under your control. Legendary undead and undead that have been ordered to respond specifically to you, or to the presence of other undead, are immune to this feature. Any undead that are ignoring you because of this feature become immune to it if a creature controlling them gives a direct order regarding your presence, or if you or one of your undead minions causes damage to them or something they were ordered to protect.

Resilient Soul

By 17th level, you have learned to stay attached to your body regardless of the state it's in. You may add your proficiency bonus to Death saving throws, and spells that successfully bring you back to life no longer consume their material components if your body is present and has been dead for no more than 10 days.

gollark: Wait, *snapped* your iPhone?
gollark: It's generally possible to run LineageOS on at least some cheap Android devices, which is nice as I do not have to suffer the horrors of the manufacturer's software.
gollark: I've never actually lost any, I think my last one died due to a nonfunctional touchscreen and the one before that due to a defect with the charging port.
gollark: I mostly just buy cheap (~£120) phones, which means repair is hard but at least they can be replaced cheaply in two years when they inevitably break.
gollark: Something like that? In any case, it was allegedly vaguely better somehow but made repairs cost more.
