—Granbull, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red/Blue Rescue Team |
Physical Description
A tough-looking granbull Source |
Granbull is a purple, bipedal, bulldog-like Pokémon. It has a prominent lower jaw with two long, fang-like growths. Its upper jaw has two small fangs. The jaws are so heavy that the Pokémon has trouble keeping its head up. On the sides of its head are flat, curved ears, and its small nose is black. There is a black collar around its neck with two small white markings on it. Around its wrists are two black band markings, and it has a short tail.
Though very rare, some granbull have been seen with a light orange skin color instead of purple.
History
Granbull, and their snubbull pups, were first discovered in the Johto region, though they can be found almost everywhere except in tropical regions. Despite their intimidating appearance, they are actually quite timid and easily spooked. Because their jaws are so heavy, they tend to keep their head tilted down. Because of how intimidating it looks, most smaller creatures tend to flee from them, which actually saddens them. Even more bizarre is the fact that these creatures are predominantly female, with males being a minority.
Because of their appearance, granbull are thought to be the inspiration of the mythical cù sìth, a dog-fairy that guided souls into the afterlife. The cù sìth was also known to let out three barks which could be heard for miles around, with the third bark supposedly capable of killing any who heard it before reaching safety. No one is sure where this part of the myth comes from, as no known record exists of anyone dying from being barked at by a granbull.
These creatures were not always considered fey and were thought to simply have fey ancestry, but recent studies have shown this to not be the case.
Society
While granbull are known to form packs, most snubbull and grandbull seek out human society. Despite looking intimidating, snubbull are very popular among women and youth in general. Granbull tend to take jobs that allow it to use its naturally intimidating appearance to good use, such as security and law enforcement. Terrifying a perpetrator is one of the few times a granbull will not be saddened by someone fleeing from it.
