Fist of Thaël

Sometimes one must destroy themselves, in order to be forged anew.
—Monk of Thaël, Dwarf Monk, Quoted from a monk at the Temple of Thaël

This prestige class comes from Monks who follow Thaël. It is a prestige class that focuses on the strength and destructive power of earth and rock and focuses on taking that into ones own body. It is a prestige class for monks that wish to be as rock is: solid, strong and unmoving.

Becoming a Fist of Thaël

Usually this is the class that all Monks of Thaël hope to one day achieve. Any monk however, who is respected in the eyes of this Deity of Stone, may attempt to achieve this class. It is extremely combat oriented with a focus on raw Strength and Constitution rather than Dexterity and Wisdom. It is meant for those whom believe first that destruction must come before renewal.

Class Features

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Fist of Thaël’s, unlike monks, are not proficient with any weapon but their own body. They are also not proficient with any armor or shields. They rely entirely on their own capabilities, and those granted through their deity.

Stoneform (Ex): At 1st level or higher a Fist of Thaël may transform their body into stone for a brief period of time, 3 times a day. Doing so he gains a great deal of health and strength, but at the cost of mobility. While in Stoneform, he gains + 2 Natural Armor. Stoneform takes 1 full round action to activate, and the Fist of Thaël is immobile for the duration of the channel as stone flows over his body.

Adapting Weapon (Ex): At 1st level, a Fist of Thaël gains the ability to attack in different ways by reforming the stone covering his fists. Once per turn as a move action, he may designate which type of damage his fists deal; bludgeoning, slashing, or piercing damage.

Bonus Feat: At 2nd level, a Fist of Thaël gains the bonus feat Endurance.

Heart of Stone (Ex): A Fist of Thaël of 3rd level gains the Diehard feat. He is no longer affected by wounding weapons or by effects or spells that cause continuous bleeding.

Shockwave (Ex): At 3rd level, a Fist of Thaël may attempt to create a shockwave my slamming his fists or his body against the ground. Doing so creates a 10ft AOE centered on the Fist of Thaël with a Reflex Save – DC10 + Fist of Thaël level + Strength modifier. All in the area, except the Fist of Thaël must save or be knocked over. Using this ability provokes an attack of opportunity.

Ancient Fists (Ex): At 4th level or higher, a Fist of Thaël’s fists are considered magic weapons for the purposes of damage reduction. They may also be enchanted.

Flame Resistant (Ex): At 4th level, a Fist of Thaël gains Fire resistance 10 while in Stoneform or Steelform. If they are in Steelform, the fire damage is halved first before Fire resistance.

Shatter (Ex): At 5th level or higher, a Fist of Thaël may choose to shatter their Stoneform or Steelform off their body in an AOE. All creatures in the 10ft radius must make a Reflex Save - DC10 + Fist of Thaël level + Con modifier. Successful save deals half damage. Stoneform inflicts piercing damage equal to 1d6/class level. Steelform inflicts 1d8/class level. If the Fist of Thaël drops to -5 before shedding their form, Shatter goes off automatically before dropping to the unconscious state.

Steelform (Ex): At 6th level, a Fist of Thaël’s Stoneform changes, and becomes Steelform, forging his own body out of steel for a short period of time. Steelform acts the same as Stoneform but with a few minor alterations: the Fist of Thaël, while in Steelform gains +5 Natural Armor.

Forged Soul (Ex): At 7th level, a Fist of Thaël may use his Fortitude Save in the place of his Will Save.

Molten Fists (Ex): At 7th level, a Fist of Thaël’s fists while in Steelform become bubbling, molten steel, inflicting an additional 1d6 Fire Damage on all unarmed attacks. Anything picked up with his hands while in Steelform can catch fire.

World Born (Ex): At 8th level, a Fist of Thaël becomes one with the earth itself and all life. Fist of Thaël is under the effects of a permanent Tongues spell and can communicate with any intelligent creature. Fist of Thaël suffers no penalty to movement when crossing any sort of rough terrain.

Timeless Body (Ex): Upon attaining 7th level, a Fist of Thaël no longer takes penalties to her ability scores for aging and cannot be magically aged. Any such penalties that she has already taken, however, remain in place. Bonuses still accrue, and the Fist of Thaël still dies of old age when their time is up. However, rather than perish, they simply form themselves back into the stone of the earth.

Unmoving Stone (Ex): A Fist of Thaël of 8th level or higher can no longer be physically moved as long as they keep in contact with the floor. With exception to magic, as long as the means are physical, the Fist of Thaël will not move in any way that they do not wish. This means they cannot be knocked over, staggered, pushed, pulled, overpowered or tripped.

Perfect Defense (Ex): At 8th level, a Fist of Thaël can become invulnerable and immobile for short peroids of time. This ability reduces all damage dealt by physical sources for 1 round / Fist of Thaël level. The Fist of Thaël cannot perform any actions during this period of time while invulnerable. Using this power halts the time left on whichever form he or she is in currently, resuming after they exit their defensive stance.

Elemental: At 10th level, a Fist of Thaël becomes an elemental creature of stone. His type changes to outsider. Unlike other outsiders, the Fist of Thaël can still be brought back from the dead even though he is an Outsider. Additionally, the Fist of Thaël gains damage reduction 10/magic.

Unbreakable: At 10th level, a Fist of Thaël gains immunity to all forms of enchantment. He may use Steelform an unlimited amount of times per day. Also, while in Steelform, the Fist of Thaël gains Fire Immunity and damage reduction 5/-

Ex- Fist of Thaël’s

A Fist of Thaël’s who becomes nonlawful or disregards Thaël’s teaching can no longer retain his favour. As such, the character returns to his state before being forged anew. Rather, that is, dead.
