Eldrich Hag/Haggard (3.5e Prestige Class)
Hag/Haggard
“ | "Aberration's blood, warlock's skin, Warg's furr, Cursed Wind! Together these bubble and boil, and soon for me, the world will toil!" | ” |
—Moligard, Elven Hag, while working on a potion to corrupt the wilds she has taken residents in. |
! Hags, or Haggards, for the male variants, are magic users who've taken part in corrupting powers. Be it demons, or things beyond the veil, Hags or Haggards take in this corruption to further a goal.
Becoming a Hag/Haggard
! Hags, and Haggards become as such normally to pursue power from corrupting pollutants and brews. Those who pursue this either are morally dubious, or care not for the long term effects.

Class Features
All of the following are class features of the Hag/Haggard.
Iron Cauldron: Every good Hag or Haggard has a Cauldron where they brew their potions. They gain a large Cauldron, infused with magic, allowing them to summon, and unsummon it at will. With it, they are able to brew potions at 75% of their normal cost.
Boil and Toil: By boiling a creature, living or dead, a Hag/Haggard is able to create a healing potion that heals for a variable of their hit dice. This takes 3 hours to do, but more than one body can be boiled at a time. Up to two large creatures at once, four medium creatures, and up to eight small creatures.
Eye of Newt: Exp Costs for making potions are halved.
Improved Boil and Toil: The potions created work on a variable of twice the hd of the creature boiled. yell
Corrupting Brew: Spending one week in a location, the Hag is able to create a potion to infuse the area with a type of energy. Choose one of the following templates, and apply it to the creatures there: Fiendish, Celestial, Pseudonatural, or plant zombie. (Counts as a plant rather than undead, other than that, same as the zombie template.) Creatures under this effect act as friendly to the hag, as per a charm spell. Any creature with an intelligence of over 3 get a will save, Dc 10+Hag/Haggard levels to resist. If the charm is broken, the other effects of the potion wear off after 1d4 days. If the hag dies, or is forced out, the potion's effects cease after 1d4 days.
Improved Eye of Newt: Potions cost 25% of their exp costs for potions.
Into the Soup: The hag gains Improved Grapple, and is able to, when they grapple an foe, stuff them into their cauldron, causing 1d10+Spell casting stat modifier+Hag level until the foe beats them in an opposed strength check, which the Haggard/Hag gains a +4 to their check, as the iron cauldron's lid is very heavy for anyone not the hag/haggard.
Powerful Corrupting Brew: The area affected by a corrupting brew now varies depending on location. It will affect entire forests, cities, ext.
Ultimate Eye of Newt: The EXP costs of potions are removed.
Darkest Cauldron: The damage of into the soup is doubled, and any creature killed by Into the Soup acts as though boiled to make a health potion. They are able to create Corrupting Brews in one day, affecting an area for a week.
Spellcasting: At every level, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in a spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained.
Ex-Hags
Playing a Hag
Combat: Hags fill the role of the magic caster they were before, but also as a party buffer, their poultices and brews keeping the party at peak fighting form.
Advancement: After becoming full-fledged hags, many continue on the path of their original class, or another class that increases their spell casting prowess.
Resources: Hags are solitary, and seldom work together. However, in times of great strife covens of them may gather that cause havoc and chaos. A coven would welcome any hag worth their salt.
Hags in the World
“ | "As you see, I've corrupted your precious forest, turned it into a warped hell!" | ” |
Ranging from Evil Witches, to mad alchemists, Hags tend to be boogiemen, or figures of tales told to scare children. Fairy-tale like evils, or in rare cases, simply misunderstood heroes.
NPC Reactions: Most, if they can figure out who a hag, or haggard is, will react with worry if not very powerful, or perhaps terror at the sight at the fully trained hag/haggard.
Hag/Haggard Lore
Characters with ranks in Knowledge (Arcana) can research Hags to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.
DC | Result |
---|---|
11 | Hags create potions and pollutants, which warp the landscapes in which they reside. |
16 | A hag is very dangerous if they're near their cauldron, as sometimes they trap and cook creatures alive. |
21 | Without their cauldrons, Hags cannot properly create their potions, and pollutants. |
26 | Not all hags are evil, and those who are not normally are exceptionally powerful forces of good. They work to warp evil lands into something good, and beautiful. |
Hags/Haggards in the Game
As PC's, a hag may be a crazed witch, or wizard. Perhaps a cleric of a dark god, or a druid seeking to give nature a push towards fighting back. As NPCs, they can be vile witches, monsters with a taste for flesh.
Adaptation: The Hag class works very well for npcs that act as witches, hiding in the woods making brews, perhapse kidnapping children to throw in their cauldrons.
Sample Encounter: Hags work as good BBEGs, villains with profound effects on areas. They're good for games within sewers, or forests.
