Dwarven Box Gun (3.5e Equipment)

The dwarven box gun is a wrist mounted, gauntlet integrated weapon the size of your average tankard of ale. It fires custom cartridges, created by master dwarven weaponsmiths, which cost 5 sp each and require small amounts of black-powder. If submerged in water, the cartridges cannot be fired for 1d20×10 minutes. It is easy to use and can be fired with one hand with no penalty. It takes a move action to fire. While firing the box gun is a simple ranged attack, it can be used in melee. If the attacker makes an unarmed attack against the target and wishes to fire the box gun when he strikes home, he must make a reflex save where the DC is the target's AC. This attack cannot be attempted if the attacker missed his unarmed attack. If successful, the attacker discharges the weapon and deals the box gun's damage on top of any unarmed damage he would normally do. If the save is a fail then the weapon is discharged with no damage, either too early or too late, and must be reloaded before being used again.

This page is of questionable balance. Reason: Statblock says this is martial; the description mentions a "simple ranged attack"; the categories say this is exotic. Which is it?

So what yer tellin' me is that that thing there's got a tiny bowish thing in it'at shoots little bits'a metal all quick like so it kills em? A'ite. Sounds real impracticable and such. Don't know why y'dont jus' use a bow.

The BoxGun only has a clip-size of one is a very difficult weapon to reload, taking one minute (10 rounds) to reload a single bullet. Some masterwork BoxGuns may have a revolver style magazine, allowing it to fire many times before it must be reloaded. To determine the cost of this weapon, increase its cost by 300 (as per masterwork) then for each extra round in the magazine the BoxGun's creation cost increases by a factor of 1. For example; a Medium BoxGun with a 6-round clip costs 3300 gp.
