Dragon Hunter

Never laugh at a live dragon.
—J.R.R. Tolkien

It takes a lot of guts to become a hunter of Dragons, but like in many journeys there is the first step, and that is surviving your first encounter.

Becoming a Dragon Hunter

It is well known that dragons have more wealth accumulated than any other single creature, on average. Further, their bodies can be used to forge magnificent armor. These two facts alone are enough to spur many adventurers into becoming dragon hunters. When you factor in the number of evil dragons whose favorite pastime is decimating villages, revenge becomes another powerful motivator. Most dragon hunters are fighters or barbarians, though rangers are a close second, and almost any class can become one. Dragons, after all, do not discriminate when they slaughter villages.

Class Features

Dragon hunters are decent fighters under any circumstances, but their power only truly shows while fighting dragons or their followers. All of the following are class features of the dragon hunter.

Hunters Knowledge: In your studies to learn more about your favorite enemy you have gained knowledge not only about Dragons but all of the places and conditions that they live in.

Elemental Immunity: The Hunter gains the supernatural ability to completely ignore 2 different types of dragon breath in his career. He may choose one at Level 1 and the second at level 9 ).

Animal Companion: Dragon Hunters acquire an animal companion like their standard ranger counterparts do, However, the companion is not the usual woodland creature. The hunter gain one of four followers 1.) A Mastiff from the Plane of Shadow. This animal can be called up to three times a day for up to one hour at a time or a total of 3 hours a day 2.) A hippogriff that serves as a mount only 3.) A Dragonelle that acts as a mount and can fight alongside the Hunter. 4.) A Half-Dragon level 4 Fighter with all necessary armor, weapons, and gear. This fighter serves the hunter not as a slave or pack mule, but as a traveling companion and expects at least 5% of the Hunters gold or treasure a month. He serves loyally and will not leave the Hunter unless he or the Hunter dies. 5. A young Faerie dragon the size of a cat joins you as your companion. They share stories of their Dragon brethren and slowly teach you draconic. They live to be about 50 years old. 6. During your quest to fell evil dragons you discover a young Drake. Training the Drake kindly will turn it into a loyal mount. It will completely understand Draconic and will roughly understand another language you train it to, if you do. The follower is chosen by a d6 roll.

Fighting or Weapon Style: The hunter may choose as his primary weapon one of the following pathways. 1.) Spear and Shield or Sword and Shield. Should he choose the spear, he will always use it first in battle, preferring distance. The spear he uses, no matter what spear it is, will always return to him unless destroyed. This is a supernatural ability since he cannot carry more than one spear. He may carry any other weapon he chooses, but will always use the spear first. He will also gain the feat Shield Bash. 2.)Should he choose the Sword and Shield style, he gains the Feat Martial Weapon for the Bastard sword. It must be at least a masterwork weapon. He also gains the Feat Shield Bash and the Feat Tower Shield Proficiency. Should he choose to use the Sword and Shield style, he gains Freedom of Movement as a supernatural ability ONLY while he is armored and carrying the shield. 3.) You may also choose a bonus fighting related feat instead of the first two options.

Requirements: Be of any good or neutral alignment. Must be a survivor of a dragon encounter, either as a child or in a fight. Must obtain a set of Full Plate Armor and Shield that makes use of the scale, hide and bones of a dragon by level 8. At level 10, he must have acquired enough bones, teeth, and talons to build a Dragon Fang Bastard sword. The Hunter will keep a portion of his share of gold to distribute to villages that are recovering from dragon attacks. He will keep any items that will benefit him in combat, all other items he will give away or sell to pay for his travels. A Dragon Hunter Will never hunt any of the good dragons, I.E. Silver, Gold, Bronze, etc.

Dragon Aspect: The Dragon hunter may choose at level 10 two of the following aspects of the creatures he battles. 1). Dragon Wings. The wings are fully functional and allow the Hunter to fly 200 ft. rd. 2.) Dragon Breath. The Hunter breath weapon of the same type of Elemental Immunity he has obtained. 3.) Dragon Presence. This allows the Hunter, at-will use of the ability Creat Fear in a 40 ft. area for as long as he wishes. 4.) Dragon's Greed. Just like the Dragons you have hunted you gain a gut feeling that leads you to treasure, especially a Dragons Hoard. The larger the gathering of wealth the stronger the feeling. It is up to the DM's discretion. 6.) You gain a strong fascination to Metalic Dragons in response to your hatred of Chromatic Dragons. Your Passion aid's in your biased researching and remembering of your favored enemy.

gollark: Oh, you managed to figure it out in that much detail? Wow.
gollark: Yes, but that's not all of it.
gollark: I think all these nuls are doing something weird to my terminal.
gollark: I wonder if it's worth just trying to bruteforce it, since I can't make this lua decompiler work.
gollark: Looks like it's doing something almost but not quite hexadecimaly.
