Divine Horseman (5e Race)
Divine Horseman
In the waning days of mortals, celestial horsemen descend to pass judgement over the lands, however once their purpose is fulfilled, Armageddon wrought, they remained in the world of man, gained followers and new purpose. They hide their true forms, learning about the cultures that they may need to eradicate in the future, others are shameless and parade themselves through world, wreaking havoc or bringing justice.
Physical Description
Divine Horsemen's appearances change drastically between the four domains, although they all share a basic humanoid form that is larger than most humans.
Horsemen of Conquest greatly resemble elves, with pale, translucent skin that appears to glow, graceful facial features and builds; however their eyes have no distinct iris, their sclera and iris a single shade of lightly glowing blue. Additionally at night, their gold skeletons are visible beneath their skin.
Horsemen of War have bulkier, more muscular bodies than their counterparts, with reddish scales covering their entire bodies and their faces are generally more reptilian. Their eyes have the same lack of iris as their brethren, except their eyes are a range of fire oranges and reds which flicker like flames.
Horsemen of Famine have incredibly thin bodies, their blue/grey skin taught over their bones. They have no visible ears or nose, and their mouths are hidden when they have them closed. Their eyes have a sickly yellow glow to them, which resembles clouds of sulphur.
Horsemen of Death are skeletons with a perpetual shadow that flows out from the bones in a humanoid form, masking their skeletal nature most of the time, although rapid movements or a strong breeze will reveal parts of the porcelain skeleton. Their eyes are orbs of white with holes that give the impression of pupils.
History
In the beginning there were only four divine horsemen: Conquest, War, Famine and Death; servants sealed away until they were needed. However, once they were released during one of the first apocalypses, after they finished wiping the world's slate clean, they refused to fade away or be locked up again. They decided that their existence and influence was far to important for the gods to simply hide them away again, so the Primordial Four, as they became known, set up their own order of beings whose purpose is to judge the mortals, either teaching or smiting wrongdoers until the ultimate reckoning. Now the Order of Divine Horsemen, celestials who walk with the living, is a large and significant, although relatively unknown and unpopular sect of the heavens.
Society
The Divine Horsemen value community and the actions of individuals within the community, the Four Houses of Dominion, led by one of the Primordial Four Horsemen, each prioritise additional values. Conquest values opinion, good judgment and strength of character. War values courage, strength and physical skill. Famine values truth, balance and consequences. Death values life, freedom and clarity of thought.
Horsemen society is organised simply, the Patrons of the houses at the top, followed by champions (highly experienced and eldest), warriors (been and killed in the mortal realm), Travelers (been to the mortal realm), Pions (Inexperienced) and Younglings (not past maturity).
