Dedicated Magician (3.5e Trait)
Dedicated Magician
3e Summary::You are so focused on your particular specialty of magic that others have little hope of resisting your spells. But, many say such dedication leads to folly...
Benefit: Select one alignment or subschool of magic, such as [Figment], [Good], [Lawful], or [Summoning]. You act as if you are one level higher than you are for determining the effects of spells with that alignment or subschool at 1st level, plus an additional +1 every five character levels thereafter. Also if you are casting a spell of your favored subschool or alignment that has a variable effect you always act as if you rolled one higher than you actually did for each die, unless this would take you over the limit of that die (ex.if you roll a 6 on a d6) in which case you forgo the bonus on that roll.
Drawback: You suffer a -2 penalty to your primary spellcasting score (wisdom for wizards, Charisma for sorcerers and bards, etc) and an additional -1 penalty to that score every five character levels after level one. This penalty is not applied when determining stats on the subschool or alignment that you chose such as the highest level of spells you can cast, determining variables in those spells or saves against those spells.
