Cyborg (5e Race)

Cyborg

My body may have its limitations but when i put my mind to it, there's nothing i can't do.
—Cyborg (New Earth)

Physical Description

No cyborg is alike, each differing in physical appearance and internal devices. All cyborgs have their brains linked with highly intelligent “thinking machines” or Artificial Intelligences. These “AI” cannot speak, but subconsciously communicate with the cyborg, influencing it’s movements and actions ever so slightly to give it an edge in battle or any other situation. To protect itself, each cyborg has an electricity modulator in its body, which regulates how much energy can be in the cyborg at once, to prevent it from overheating or being electrified. If the electricity modulators gets to much energy, it forces it out of the body to protect the circuitry.

All cyborgs have metal parts in their bodies, with some visible on the outside and some internal. It’s impossible to have a fully robotic body, with only the vital organs on the inside, as any process to do so would kill the cyborg. Work with your DM to figure out how your metal parts look on you and how it affects you in social situations.

History

Cyborgs have many different origins, but they all have one thing in common: being born as a human and being turned into a cyborg through metal implants. The transformation process erases any racial traits a cyborg may have had in a previous life. The process takes expensive and rare equipment not always found in every world of D&D. If this is the case, maybe you came from another world, or have no memory of a previous life.

The transformation process implants devices into the transforming human’s brain and body. The result is a highly intelligent cyborg, strong warriors with enhanced brains. Some cyborgs were created for special reasons, like flying or crowd control.

Society

Cyborgs are usually outcasts of society, being called monsters by their neighbors and family. Some with minimal exterior parts try to hide their identity, and some with no exterior parts might not even realize who they are. On some rare occasions, cyborgs are seen as blessings from the gods and not machines. In these cases, cyborgs use their powers to help civilization, such as using wings to help build towers, or keeping the peace with their superior strength.

In some unfortunate cases, cyborgs are seen as nothing more than tools. A Strongarm may be forced to fight in an arena for sport, or a Winglord might be used as nothing more than a messenger that can deliver news over long distances. Some cyborgs got so fed up as being treated like second rate citizens that they rebelled. Despite not having the numbers, they took down many humanoids in the rebellion before almost being wiped out. After that, cyborgs were officially outlawed and they became more uncommon, but never went extinct.

Race Names

Cyborgs tend to have machine sounding names like RH-400, but sometimes have human nicknames for ease or fun. Like Arnold.
