Who are the Crystal Dwarves?

Only some know of the origin of the Crystal Dwarves. This sub-race of dwarves was made when the gods were making the dwarves, while most dwarves were made of earth and common elements, the crystal dwarves were made from unique and rare crystals giving them strange and unusual powers. Some see the crystal dwarves as near godlike figures that represent a time of peace, bountiful harvests, or that the gods have sent them a savoir. Most who see them in this light tend to be fellow dwarves, but some humans or other common folk may share this idea. Crystal dwarves typically live in deep underground mines or citadels, most often preferring to stay as close to the earth as possible. Since their forms are changed by the crystals they are made from, their personalities are as well. This gives each member of the subspecies unique traits that represent their crystals. For example: amethyst dwarves are typically very shy and quiet, turquoise dwarves are cheery and joyful, sapphires are curious and kindhearted, rubies are brave and shy, emeralds are ambitious and determined, and diamonds are loving and charismatic. Of course, these traits do have exceptions, but for the most part one can determine the personality of a crystal dwarf based on their crystal.

How do Crystal Dwarves Look?

The Crystal Dwarves have a few physical traits that set them apart from their fellow dwarves. Most noticeable are:

  • Hair Color: Usually, crystal dwarves have hair that is similar to that of regular dwarves, but with highlights of the colors of their crystals.
  • Eye Color: Crystal dwarves have eyes the color of their crystals, for example: amethyst dwarves typically have purple eyes
  • Skin Color: Tan and light brown skin tones are common for crystal dwarves, though their skin can often have tones of their crystal's color. Sometimes, crystal dwarves can have patches of their crystal's colors in birthmarks that they keep throughout their lives.

Amethyst Dwarf

The earth becomes you! You have strange powers thanks to your unique blood line.

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.
Aquarius Blessing. You can breathe air and water.
Earth Tongue. You can speak, read, and write Primordial.
Body of Earth. When unarmored, your Armor Class is equal to 11 + your Dexterity modifier.
Force From Within. You have resistance to force damage.

Turquoise Dwarf

The earth becomes you! You have supernatural powers thanks to your unique blood line.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1.
Sagittarius Blessing. You have proficiency with the longbow.
Earth Tongue. You can speak, read, and write Primordial.
Body of Earth. When unarmored, your Armor Class is equal to 11 + your Dexterity modifier.
Flame From Within. You have resistance to fire damage.

Sapphire Dwarf

The earth becomes you! You have powerful communication powers thanks to your unique blood line.

Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Virgo Blessing. Through sounds and gestures, you can communicate simple ideas with Small or smaller beasts.
Earth Tongue. You can speak, read, and write Primordial.
Virgo's Wheat. You can cast the entangle spell once with this trait, requiring no material components, and you regain the ability to cast it this way when you finish a long rest. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

Ruby Dwarf

The earth becomes you! You have strong powers thanks to your unique blood line.

Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.
Cancer Blessing. You have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
Earth Tongue. You can speak, read, and write Primordial.
Cancers Pincers. You are proficient with your unarmed strikes, which deal 1d4+Strength piercing damage on a hit.

Emerald Dwarf

The earth becomes you! You have mythic powers thanks to your unique blood line.

Ability Score Increase. Your Strength score increases by 1.
Taurus Blessing. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
Earth Tongue. You can speak, read, and write Primordial.
Taurus Movement. Your base walking speed increases to 30 feet.

Diamond Dwarf

The earth becomes you! You have persuasive powers thanks to your unique blood line.

Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 1.
Aries Golden Fleece. You have proficiency in the Persuasion skill.
Earth Tongue. You can speak, read, and write Primordial.
Body of Diamond. When unarmored, your Armor Class is equal to 12 + your Dexterity modifier.
