Circle of the Pack, Variant (5e Subclass)

Circle of the Pack, Variant

Druid Subclass

A Druid of the Pack may create a pack as they progress through the levels, the maximum size of the pack can be determined through the table below. The creatures allowed into this pack must not be humanoid but can otherwise be any creature the Druid decides, the Pack will use the generic pack stat blocks for all statistics.

Druid LevelPack Count
2nd1 Creature
7th2 Creatures
11th3 Creatures
14th4 Creatures
20th5 Creatures

Call of the Alpha

At 2nd level, beasts begin to herald your call as a growing Alpha. At the levels in the table above, and on a long rest, you gain beasts to add to your pack. These beasts act as one unit in combat and out of combat.

The pack can be moved around the battle and can surround an ally, raising its AC by the amount of pack members, or it can surround an enemy, giving it disadvantage on attack rolls due to it being surrounded by beasts this uses the packs reaction.
As a bonus action from the Druid the pack can be commanded. A flat roll for the entire pack will be made and not by individual creatures. If the HP of your Pack falls below the HP value of another Pack's stat block, you must start to use that stat block.
Out of combat, the pack is composed of a number of creatures that the Druid can decide, these creatures have stat equal to the pack stat block, not their original stat blocks.

Stronger Together

At 2nd level, the Druid can expend a use of Wildshape to turn into the same creature as the pack, counting them as an additional member. This raises the total pack count by one whilst the Druid is wildshaped and during this time the pack can attack both as a full action or a bonus action.
You must become the same creature as at least one member of the pack in order to gain these benefits.

Alpha's Presence

At 6th level your Circle teachings allow you to assert more authority over some creatures. When making Intimidation, Persuasion or Animal Handling checks to creatures with a lower challenge rating than your level, you gain advantage.
When you make Animal Handling checks on a Beast type creature with a smaller size than you, you may add double your proficiency to the check. Also at 6th level the packs attacks count as magical for overcoming resistances.

Pack Guardian

Beginning at 10th level, your bond to your allies has strengthened. In response to an ally within half of your total speed being attacked, you can use your reaction teleport to them and force the attacker to strike you instead, you receive the effects of resistance to any damage dealt. This feature can be used a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once) per long rest.
In addition, when you switch to a lower stat block as the result of damage, you may expend a hit die and make a Wisdom Saving Throw against your own Spell Save DC. On a success, your Pack instantly regains health until it would upgrade to the next stat block.
This feature can be used a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of once) per short rest.

Mighty Leader

At 14th level, your connection to your pack allows you to summon them at will. As a bonus action, you can expend a use of Wild Shape to teleport all members of your pack to you. Each creature will appear in its own space within 5ft of you.
If there are not enough unoccupied spaces around the Druid, the pack member may be summoned into an occupied one, this causes both the enemy creature and the pack member to be knocked prone and the enemy creature is pushed 5ft away in a straight line.
This feature can be used by expending a 7th level spell slot.

True Alpha

At 20 th level, your pack has grown in size and thus needs an extra level of authority to keep it under control. You may now choose to assign a beta in your pack, this raises the overall pack statistics drastically so long as the beta is nearby. The beta can also be controlled separately from the pack in combat, using the Beta stat block.
You can also spend 48 hours developing a deeper understanding of this beta, allowing you to Wild Shape into this creature once per long rest as long as they are in your pack.
If the Beta dies separate from the pack you must take a long rest to name a new Beta or to bring back the previous one from the afterlife.
