Channeler Mage

Power through this, power to this, power from this.

A wizard may chose to become a Channeler Mage, this is a path taken by someone that wants to work for their faction (be it as a mech pilot or as a front line combatant). The Channeler Mages could be solitary and use this ability to do their own work.

Becoming a Channeler Mage

A Channeler Mage is usually a wizard that wants to pilot a mech effectively or cannel while fighting some other item. Their combat ability is mostly from their previous class and their physical skill, they may multiclass into a combat based class.

Class Features

All of the following are class features of the Channeler Mage.

Channeling: A Channeler Mage may channel a spell through an item, this may either cast a spell through a weapon (for reach) or grant a magical bonus to the weapon's attack and damage rolls. This is done by taking a move action to sacrifice a spell, the magical weapon gains a bonus depending on the spell level sacrificed. This lasts for 1d4 rounds plus the Channeler Mage's class levels and their intelligence or charisma modifier (whatever they use for casting).

Ignore Spell Failure: Every level of Channeler Mage reduces their arcane spell failure chance by 5%.

Greater Channeling: At third level a Channeler Mage may channel through any item, they can channel though an entire building if they so required. This allows them to pilot mechs and cast as if they were the mech. They still require line of sight to cast the spell, you may also cast at a target that you cannot see but if this hits is defined by a DM.

Ex-Channeler Mages

Playing a Channeler Mage

Combat: A Channeler Mage uses his channeling ability to get up close and personal with the enemy. He can cast while wearing armor and wielding weapons.

Advancement: Either continuing with their arcane caster class or multi-classing into a combat based class.

Resources: Channeler Mages usually don't work together but those that do usually work for a great empire to pilot their vehicles. Some are solitary and pilot mechs to do what they can to get by.

Channeler Mages in the World

My piloting skill is... unique.

Characters may be working for a group, be it their faction or be it a smaller organization. They may also be using it for themselves selling their skill as pilots.

NPC Reactions: Some NPCs get Channeler Mages to do things that are extremely dangerous, but their skills can help them to overcome tasks that normal pilots couldn't do.

Channeler Mage Lore

Characters with ranks in knowledge (arcana) can research Channeler Mages to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

Knowledge (arcana)
DCResult
11Channeler Mages can use their spells through weapons.
16Channeler Mages can cast spells while wearing light armor.
21Channeler Mages can cast spells while wearing all kinds of armor, just their armor still interrupts them a little bit.
26Channeler Mages can even cast spells while piloting mechs, this makes them valuable allies.

Channeler Mages in the Game

Channeler Mages may either be pilots or they may be spell combatants, wearing armor and wielding weapons.

gollark: Mine was mostly made for an esoteric programming languages Discord server, so it has an interface for TIO.run, a reminder system for some reason, a fortunes command, and a random number generator.
gollark: What do your bots do?
gollark: 407 here, apparently.
gollark: It actually has a fun feature where I can execute arbitrary code in it for testing.
gollark: I've heard about "cogs", but my thing just has a lot of `@bot.command`s.
