Description

The Catamaran is a very small craft consisting of two parallel hulls connected by perpendicular struts. These struts support a cabin on top of which is mounted a tall, broad sail which provides the craft with its motive power through the harnessing of gravitational forces. Since the craft does not utilize a spelljammer helm nor can it maintain an air pocket for the amount of crew needed to operate it, it is impractical for long term voyages. It is also impractical for combat, since its small size and necessarily exposed crew (those who manipulate the sail) lead to a very real risk of any hit to the craft sending those aboard tumbling into wildspace.

Ship Uses

Pleasure Cruiser: The majority of catamarans in service are those used as personal yachts, intended only for short, pleasurable journeys without much threat of danger. Their maneuverability and skill-based steering mechanism makes them a popular vessel for young bluebloods to race, to the enjoyment of onlookers.

Escape Boat: Much like lifeboats on earthling vessels, larger ships often carry one or more catamarans for emergency use. These vessels are only useful when in the vicinity of a planetary body or another friendly vessel, but their cheap cost and similar ability to safely land in either land or water tends to outweigh costlier options such as the Wreckboat.

gollark: My teachers mostly just vaguely complain about people not being on video a lot.
gollark: I see.
