Blood Soldier (3.5e Prestige Class)

Blood Soldier

The Cult of the Blood Soldier is a widespread but hidden cult of warriors. These men, who believe themselves to be evil, seek to earn a "better" place in their infernal afterlives. Rather than be devil's food, they have pre-enlisted in the infernal armies. They believe that when they die, they will fight forever in the eternal battles of the netherworld.

While living, blood soldiers seek to advance their military careers by serving cruel and terrible masters. The more terrible, the better. You frequently find blood soldiers acting as the bodyguards for wizards and clerics, acting as captains for warlords and blackguards, and sometimes acting on their own. There is only one truism about blood soldiers: they go where the action is.

As a blood soldier never knows where he must go, or what he must do, he must be trained to fight in many styles under many conditions. Blood soldiers must be able to fight and wrestle bare handed, fight with an weapon given to them, ride any creature given to them, and generally be effective in most situations.

Most blood soldiers are fighters who have turned to evil. Some are barbarians or other martial classes. A few are clerics. Arcane classes have little interest in becoming blood soldiers.

Class Features

All the following are class features of the blood soldier:

Aura of Evil (Ex): The power of a blood soldier's aura of evil (see the detect evil spell) is equal to her character level. Add Evil to the soldier's subtype. In addition, any celestial or fiend recognizes the blood soldier as a blood soldier and will treat them accordingly.

Darkvision (Ex): The blood soldier gains Darkvision out to 60 feet.

Smite Good (Su): Once per day the creature can make a normal melee attack to deal extra damage equal to its HD total (maximum of +20) against a good foe.

Resist Fire (Ex): The blood soldier gains Resistance (Fire) 5.

Resist Cold (Ex): The blood soldier gains Resistance (Cold) 5.

Damage Reduction (Ex): The blood soldier gains DR 5/magic.

Fiendish (Ex): The blood soldier has secured himself a place in the afterlife as a mercenary. The blood soldier gains the Fiendish template. Add Extraplanar to the soldier's subtype. The blood soldier gains Spell Resistance character level + 5. Use the character level when determining hit die based effects. Do not count the level adjustment of the template.

A blood soldier's natural weapons, as well as any weapons they wield, are treated as evil-aligned and magic for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction.

When a any blood soldier dies, his body and equipment are destroyed in a blazing hellfire. His soul and his equipment are immediately sent to the netherworld to join the infernal legions. Those who are not worthy are sold as devil's food. Those with five levels of blood soldier are found worthy and change their type to Outsider. As an Outsider, the blood soldier is not affected by raise dead or resurrection. Outsider blood soldiers can be called or gated if you know their name. All blood soldiers have standing orders to never work without payment up-front.

gollark: That's only specified for IPv4.
gollark: Side channels are where instead of looking at the obvious inputs/outputs of a system you look at other information which might be affected by what it's doing, like a chip's power draw, electromagnetic radiation from it, or timing.
gollark: There's some weirdness where it's not *strictly* rolled back entirely so some information can be extracted through bizarre side channels.
gollark: Spectre/Meltdown work using weirdness in speculative execution, which is where the CPU executes stuff faster by assuming one possibility is true then rolling it back if it's wrong.
gollark: CPUs have a bunch of privilege separation mechanisms, but flaws in them sometimes get around those.
