Blood Metal

Blood metal is metal extracted from the blood of a living creature. It takes much time, and many creatures to acquire even a small amount of Blood Metal, thus explaining its steep cost.

This unique metal adds to the quality of a weapon or suit of armor. Weapons fashioned from blood metal have the natural ability to bypass natural armor bonuses. Armor made from blood metal grants its wearer +3 hide if it’s light armor, +2 hide if it’s medium armor, +1 hide if it’s heavy armor. Shields made of blood metal deal damage as a spiked shield, but deal slashing damage. Blood metal is so costly that weapons and armor made from it are always of masterwork quality; the masterwork cost is included in the prices given below. Thus, blood metal weapons and ammunition have a +1 enhancement bonus on attack rolls, and the armor check penalty of blood metal armor is lessened by 1 compared to ordinary armor of its type. Items without metal parts are far less likely to be made from blood metal. An arrow could be made of blood metal, but a sling could not.

Only weapons, armor, and shields that can be made of metal can be fashioned from blood metal. Weapons, armor and shields normally made of steel that are made of blood metal have the same number of hit points as normal. Blood metal has 35 hit points per inch of thickness and hardness 12.

Any other price changes for armor or weapon enhancements are entirely up to the DM. Keep in mind that Blood metal is made out of the blood of living creatures when determining pricing changes.
