Race Description

Blood Elves are a race of Elves, that despite their similarities to Elves and Eladrin, are their own distinct species. They are a proud and confident race, almost to the point of narcissism, possessing a large amount of pride for their origins. Most are especially haughty, and believe that their race are superior to others, given their incredibly long history and lifespan, divergence from other elves, direct descent from the high elves and their generally advanced knowledge of the Arcane. Living incredibly long lives, they accrue extensive knowledge over their lifetimes, and outlive almost all other races, particularly in regards to humans and other elves. This means that their involvement with particularly short lived races is often quite frequent, and thus they try to avoid maintaining contact with them as they see their friends and loved one's of other races grow old and die. They even live longer than the Eladrin, at over 400 years old, which tends to lead to them having trouble mixing with other races. Partially as a result of this and their general nature, they tend to find themselves being very reclusive within their own kind, and thus it's easy for them to become insular and detached from the rest of the world. Despite this, not all Blood Elves are racial extremists, bigots or narcissists, but they tend to be a very proud race.

Blood elves, despite their inclination towards the arcane, tend to make great warriors. While not particularly well suited for it, they often serve as fighters, and excel at all other martial classes other than the warlord (and fighter). They are particularly adept at being Paladins, and are commonly Clerics, Invokers, and Avengers. With a tendency towards the extremes of the arcane, they make poor wizards, and instead focus more so on the darker more uncontrolled magical arts, such as the Warlock or Sorcerer, relying more so on raw Charisma and vigor than intricately planned spells. They are also known to excel at being Shamans, Bards, Ardents, and Monks, with an affinity towards being Druids. With a diverse array of abilities, they possess a broad range of capabilities, but err on the side of Charisma and Wisdom, using both sage-like wisdom and their sheer force of personality to achieve their goals, rather than brute strength. A brave race, they distinguish themselves not only by their education and poise, but also by their willingness to engage the enemy directly. Despite their somewhat reserved style by nature, they are not afraid to confront their enemies directly, and often make grand gestures in to challenging them. A blood elf challenging another blood elf is often a dangerous spectacle, with both sides taking the rules and customs of their race extremely seriously.

Blood elves' flaws as a race are almost identical to their strengths. They are proud, brave, ambitious, charismatic and sagelike, and also arrogant, conniving, manipulative and narcissistic. They have a tendency to be incredibly reserved and cautious at one moment, while simultaneously reacting in chaotic and unpredictable ways the next. Their lifespans and heritage often makes them overconfident, while simultaneously can leave them detached from the world around them. The incredibly young and old tend to be very wild in their temperament, willing to make intense sacrifices as they haven't lived long enough to understand their potential loss or they've lived too long to care. Many Blood Elf adventurer's are young individuals seeking an escape from traditional Blood Elf society, or older individuals who've lived so long they wish to see danger once again in their lives. They tend to have a very fatalistic mentality, and face death with a determined stoicism, careful to make sure they go out on their own terms. For this reason and others they tend to be very bloody and violent when around other races as their departure from their home cities is an indication they are searching for a good death, a partial reason for their nickname of the term "blood elf".

Play a Blood Elf if you want...

  • to be a unique elven species.
  • to be a member of a race with rich history.
  • to be a member of a race that favors the paladin, cleric, rogue, and sorcerer classes.

Physical Qualities

Blood elves are said to be roughly physically similar to high elves, save for tendency to dress differently and in royal colors and clothing. Many paint runes or tattoos on their faces, arms and shoulders, meant for warding off demons, celebrating victories or simply to appear intimidating, something high elves are unlikely to do. Blood elves are unlike ordinary elves in that they are less attune to nature and more attune to more magical origins. They almost all come from a single city, Quel'Thalas, which as a result of the rest of Blood Elf society having been destroyed, leaves them possessing traits of just a few particular cities.

Blood elven males typically have slender, muscular, and athletic bodies. They also possess long pointy ears, acute senses and keen sight in the darkness. Night elves have long, slanted ears while blood elves' ears are shorter and tend to point upwards. Blood elven females can possess much the same, albeit typically sporting a slim elven physique. Like all elves, blood elves are considered highly attractive by the standards of most mortal races. Taller and larger than most other elf races, they are muscular and large, compared to the slimmer, smaller elves, such as the Half-Elf or Drow. They have incredibly long life spans, of nearly 400 years, and remain physically fit and capable until their death. As a result of their incredibly long age and similar origin, they are generally well educated and versatile, having the experience and knowledge of many lifetimes. Some are known to live much longer, and if the secret of the Arcana is discovered, and blood is drained from living creatures, it's often been said that they could potentially live indefinitely.

Notes

The race is familiar to many of the forms of elves, and while many forms exist I wanted to provide my own specific version. While more for story purposes, much of it is to be based around being bloodied and other abilities.

gollark: What is?
gollark: You can use LESS/Stylus/SASS and stuff though - they compile to CSS.
gollark: So no variables (widely-supported in oldish browsers, at least), no mixins etc...
gollark: The main issue with it is that it's very simple, I think.
gollark: Lots of developers actually compile from JavaScript (fancy versions with new features and/or JSX) to JavaScript (boooooring version older browsers support).
