Blessed of Boccob (3.5e Prestige Class)
Blessed of Boccob
“ | "Boccob knows. He is the keeper of truth and magic. He will not discriminate. Open yourself to him, and see." | ” |
—Unknown author, Biblia Arcanum |
Boccob is a god of Knowledge and Magic. Some who wish to benefit from his knowledge or become more powerful in magical ability actively pledge themselves to furthering his causes in exchange.
Becoming a Blessed of Boccob
Characters who become blessed of Boccob are typically clerics for him, devoted to his causes, although they may rarely be druids. Being able to cast arcane spells, they generally are also wizards, as sorcerers sometimes do become Blessed, but usually lack the focus to do so. Bards, Rogues, Rangers, and Paladins are almost unheard of as Blessed. As divine spellcasters, they usually benefit from a high wisdom, and as arcane spellcasters, they usually benefit from a high intelligence or charisma (depending on their arcane spellcasting class).

Class Features
As a Blessed of Boccob advances, he becomes more skilled in the arts of magic, blending divine and arcane magic, and more readily altering spells.
All of the following are class features of the Blessed of Boccob.
Spellcasting: At each level, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in one arcane spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level and one divine spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than two spellcasting classes before becoming a Blessed of Boccob, you must decide to which classes to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.
Devoted Learner (Ex): The Blessed know that the pursuit of knowledge is of utmost importance. At every level, they continue to gain features of both of their spellcasting classes. These include bonus feats, special abilities and attacks, and every type of supernatural or extraordinary ability that comes with these classes, with the exception of dit die, BAB, and saves. These are still governed by this class.
High Arcana (Ex): There is no difference between arcane and divine magic. Any class feature or feat that improved or applies only to one kind of spellcasting (arcane or divine) -such as armored mage ability- can be applied to both spellcasting classes, if the Blessed wishes.
Magical Meld (Ex): The Blessed of Boccob prepares and performs arcane and divine magic similarly. A Blessed may prepare all his spells by study or prayer or some combination of the two. He need not carry a divine focus to perform divine magic. If one of his classes cast spells spontaneously (such as a sorcerer), he may choose a number of spells equal to half his spells known at each level to learn from his other classes' spell list (a sorcerer could learn cleric spells, for example). Each time his number of spells known increases by two in a level, he learns a new spell of that level from the other classes' spell list.
Improved Metamagic (Ex): The Blessed gains Improved Metamagic at 3rd, 6th, and 9th level. This reduces the metamagic costs by 1 to a minimum of +1.
Ability Meld (Ex): The Blessed applies half of her intelligence or charisma (whichever one applies to her arcane spellcasting) modifier to save DCs of her divine spells. She also applies half of her wisdom or charisma (whichever one applies to her divine spellcasting) modifier to the save DCs of her arcane spells. She can have both her classes use charisma (Ex. Sorcerer&Favored Soul), in that case, she effectively adds one and half of her times of her CHA modifier.
Improved Magical Meld (Ex): The Blessed of Boccob may prepare divine spells in arcane spell slots and arcane spells in divine spell slots. The spell slot's level must be at least as high as the level of the spell she prepares in it. For instance, a Blessed of Boccob can prepare Mage Armor in a level 3 Cleric spell slot, but she cannot prepare Major Creation in that spell slot.
Improved Ability Meld (Ex): The Blessed applies her intelligence or charisma (whichever one applies to her arcane spellcasting) modifier to save DCs of her divine spells. She also applies her wisdom or charisma (whichever one applies to her divine spellcasting) modifier to the save DCs of her arcane spells. She can have both her classes use charisma (Ex. Sorcerer&Favored Soul), in that case, charisma modifier added to save DC'es effectively doubled.
Playing a Blessed of Boccob
Combat:
Advancement: Blessed of Boccob generally advance fully through all ten levels. As seekers of magical mastery, they tend to take metamagical feats. Blessed also tend to further study as Mystic Theurges, Archmages, Metamages, and the like.
Resources: The Blessed of Boccob can generally contact worshippers of Boccob for assistance. The presence and strength of Boccob worship is generally low; however, the final word belongs to the Dungeon Master.
