Beast-Borne (5e Race)
Beast-borne
An artificial race willed to being as slaves and warriors to a mad wizard. Freed from his mad rule for generations they live in the forests doing what they can to integrate into the world as carefully as they can.
Physical Description
Often confused for lycanthropes or druids trapped in a half transformed state, these creatures are effectively bipedal carnivorous mammals, Wolves, Lions, Bears and Foxes to be precise. Taking on traits from the animals they were molded after, they are stronger, faster and more cunning than most humans, but are just as intelligent as a human.
History
The Beast-borne are not a natural race, far from it. They are the product of a mad wizard who wished to rule over the country he lived in. Taking the bodies of Wolves, Bears, Lions, Birds and Foxes he twisted their bodies into humanoid forms, giving them the minds of men while keeping their fangs and claws. As they grew in number, their strength in mind also grew and upon learning of their creation and their purpose they turned on their creator, killing him viciously and leaving his corpse for the buzzards as they took to the forests, as their instincts told them to, When they entered the forests they were greeted by elves, helping them build their soceity and giving them means of interacting with the outside world. Nearly 50 Generations later and their History is all but forgotten to them, But they are not ones to leave behind the lessons they have learned.
Society
The Beast-borne live in a pseudo-tribal society, where the strong are the ones in charge. They raised to respect the balance of nature, despite being a bastardization of it. While the majority of them stay within the safety of their village, some have branched out into human civilizations learning their ways and adopting their cultures and social structures. All Beast-borne have a rite of adult-hood in which they go through at the age of 12 and during which they travel out into the depths of the forest and wait for the gods to speak to them.
Beast-borne Names
Beast-borne have a combined naming convention from taken from humans and elves. Their identify their clans by some form of physical attribute, such as "Grey-tail", "Silver-pelt", "Giants-mane" etc.
Male: Kinnison, Lobo, Gorduin, Prydyr, Brun
Female: Iossa, Heathyr, Caedra, Kyera, Valerya
Beast-borne Traits
Beast-borne are excellent hunters and better friends. Endlessly loyal to those they consider family.
Ability Score Increase. Dependant on subrace.
Age. Beast-borne go through their rite of adulthood at 12 and can live to be 80, due to their .
Alignment. They focus primarily on living in and with nature to its fullest and live by the survival of fittest, making them chaotic.
Size. Beast-borne usually have sizes based on the animal you are descended from. Your size is Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Darkvision. Being constructed from animals your vision in the dark is better than humans. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Animal Instincts. Your animal nature gives you the prime advantage in the wilds. You proficient in Survival. Unfortunately you are affected by spells such as Dominate Beast.
Natural weapons. Even unarmed you are not without weapons, your body has plenty of sharp point bits for you to rip into your enemies. All beast-borne have a Bite attack that deals 1d6 piercing damage and a Claw attack that deals 1d4 slashing damage.
Beastal. Through sounds and gestures, you can communicate simple ideas with Small or smaller beasts.
Languages. You can read, write and speak in Common and Sylvan.
Subrace. A beast-borne is one of five types, the quick and cunning foxes, the tactical and honorable wolves, the savage and powerful bears, the proud lion or the wise bird.
Wolves
Ability Score Increase. Increase your Dexterity by 2, your Wisdom by 1.
Pack Mentality. Being with your party fills you with strength. You have advantage on attack rolls against a creature if at least one of the wolf's allies is within 5 feet of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated.
Foxes
Ability Score Increase. Increase your Charisma by 2 and Dexterity by 1.
Vulpine Cunning. Your cunning can get you out of (or in) trouble fairly easily. You gain proficiency in Deception.
Bears
Ability Score Increase. Increase your Constitution by 2 and your Strength by 1.
Ursine Slumber. When you finish a short or long rest, gain 1d6 + your Constitution modifier number of temporary hit points.
Lions
Ability Score Increase. Increase your Strength by 2 and Constitution by 1.
Pride Guard. You defend your pride with every fiber of your being. You gain proficiency in Intimidation.
Birds
Ability Score Increase. Increase your Wisdom by 2 and Dexterity by 1.
Graceful Flight. You have an innate fly speed due to the avian wings that make up your arms. You can fly a number of feet equal to 15 times your proficiency bonus, however, due to the small size of your wings once you have flown this complete distance you cannot use your wings for anything other then gliding until the end of a short or long rest. In addition, you cannot fly if you are wearing armor you are not proficient in or any Medium or Heavy armor. If you move your maximum fly speed in a single turn, this movement doesn't provoke opportunity attacks. While gliding you descend at a speed of 5ft per round.
