Because it is mounted on the wrist, a character wielding a bear claw is treated as though he were wearing a locked gauntlet, gaining a +10 bonus on any roll to avoid being disarmed. Furthermore, the hand wielding the bear claw is free to carry other items, although you cannot attack with both the bear claw and an item being held in that hand on the same round. You also do not gain the shield bonus that round from any shield held in the same hand if you attacked with the bear claw in that hand.
A bear claw counts as a special monk weapon: a monk proficient with it can use Flurry of Blows with it.
