Autobots/Decepticons (D20 Modern Race)

This page is of questionable balance. Reason: The transforming trait needs to be much clearer on how it works. There is no restriction on what a "form" is (can I transform into a cloud?), or what weapons can be built in (how about a tactical nuclear missile?). I get all the items hit points... but vehicles can have 50 or more hit points...

Cybertronians

Personality

Fundamentally, an Autobot is generally good in nature (any good, a few shady members may be neutral), while Decepticons are recorded as ruthless and evil( any evil, but like the autobots, those less sure about the cause may tend towards neutral). Originally one race, the rift between them is formed from a basic disagreement over the use of the Phenomenal artifact the Allspark, power source and revered object of their homeworld. The Autobot creed and general philosophy is credited as having been held first, a time honored doctrine of peace, democracy, and other generally agreeable principles most races consider "good", albiet with few bits of red tape and tradition thrown in. Thus, Even hardened by war, many autobots assume friendly status with outside races, seeking to act as warnings, guides, and council to those they encounter. they also seek to avoid collatoral damage; their knight-like code places innocent locals above themselves, a weakness often exploited by enemies. A Autobot true to his races code values freedom and justice, and will not kill a enemy that has surrendered, nor will they willingly walk away from a local in need of help or protection. Often stealthy, they generally prefer not to be noticed openly, using their alternate form abilities to conceal themselves. A few, however, have been traumatized by the war and the brutal slaughter wreaked on them, and have become sullen, bitter, or trigger-happy, causing them to violate the above stated rules. Autobots see themselves as "protectors" of the Allspark artifact, and will lay down their lives for it if they believe it is close or that a given battle has critical relevance to it. the ideal, fanatical autobot is noble and lawful good. Chaotic good Autobots are more likely to by the type to break rules and commands if it means saving lives.

Decepticons, so named for their deceptive nature, are the greater bulk of what used to be cybertron's defensive military, spurred on by the concept of "survival of the fittest", as preached by the warlord and demagouge, Megatron, the disputed leader of the Decepticons. Brutal, ruthless, and cruel, A Decepticon will not stop for anyone or anything in it's efforts to complete a goal. Anything small and organic is deemed as a germ, and are sometimes attack just for fun or weapons testing. Constructs encountered are sometimes considered for slave labor. In contrast to a Autobot, A Decepticon character cares nothing for revealing itself, and if stealth is needed, it simply ensures no survivors, sometimes involving elaborate hunts for one witness. They also love to exploit weakness, as they believe they are "strong" through the idea of might makes right. Some "purge" anything they encounter with nazi-like superiority complexes, others enslave for fun and profit, a a few destroy on impulse. A ideal Decepticon, believes that only through a single, powerful individual ruling with a iron fist can create peace among lesser nations and beings. To achieve their conquest and "stability", they seek control of the missing Allspark artifact, which would provide the control they seek to enforce over all Transformers. They are generally Chaotic evil, but have good mix of lawful evil for the more loyal soldiers and those who destroy strictly in the name of forcing evolution and improvement by killing the weak. A few even think they are helping lesser beings to become something like their own, glorious empire.

Physical Description

While their exo-structure may change wildly as they change "armor"-that is, their entire outer body shell, They range from large to huge, with a few variants upwards or bellow, depending on purpose. The size given is for the average warrior or medic; A spy may be the small size class to sneak into buildings, or conceal themselves as a tool instead of hulking vehicle or artillery piece. formed of interlocking plates from whatever they have elected to turn into, they all look powerful and highly developed. They are the production of a planet-destroying war that has lasted for millennia, and thus look like it. Autobots, however, tend to hide their weapons and pick transports and exploration-based vehicles and hold more human like faces and features; Decepticons model themselves after destructive machines and generally pick whatever they can find with the most firepower or tactical advantage. They are more alien and insectiod in nature, having fangs, more than two eyes(optics), claws, and/or spare limbs and tails. They often flaunt weapontry in their natural robotic modes. The armoring and inner hydrolics of both races seems to parody organic elements. A transformer (the true race of both factions, the "races" referred to as autobot and decepticon") is a living machine, and thus has no qualms about high-tech tactics; remoting hacking, massive trajectory calculations, intricate planning....they tend to go about things in a very logical(sometimes blunt) manner. if It'sa target, attack it with a effective means. If it is a problem, analyze and then delete, and if it is diplomacy, go with statistics and numbers.

Relations

Autobots can get along with nearly every race but the Decepticons get along with nobody.

Alignment

As defined by their respective creeds, Autobots generally are Good-aligned, though a few defectors and borderline members may be neutral on rare occasions. Decepticons are predominately evil, but agian, have few neutral members. In both cases, neutral alignments are viewed as shadowy and cause a suspect and alarm, and often ridiculed as "wishy-washy, uncommitted." Both sides have a fair balance of lawfull and chaotic elements; being that war inspires the extremes of alignment and bold stands of faith, or the solid profaning thereof.

Lands

They both don't have a home for the Autobots and the Decepticons both came from the same planet but their war for the all spark destroyed the planet.

Religion

While not given to a standard pantheon of deities, Autobots and decepticons alike give god-like status to the Allspark artifact, seeing at as meaning life, and the power to control it. Oaths and curses sworn sometimes invoke it, such as "by the cube!". Additionally, they collectively sense it; claiming it "calls" to them once every thousand years from it's unknown location. A autobot or decepticon sees it as life, or control over it, and lives have been given and lost in it's name. A few minor cults exist with in the respective races' ranks, claiming a god gave them the cube, naming him "primus". Thus far, no actual proof of this deity has been found, nor what plane he may dwell on. Decepticons claim a destroyer exists, the dark opposite of the "primus" cult; a "devourer of sparks and metal", dubbed "unicron". He is also considered a myth by most.
