"I know that dragons are just as natural as anything else - after all half of me is dragon"
—Lady Caiatris Stalkingwolf, Half-dragon Elf druid

Becoming a Draconic Aspect

Typically Draconic Aspects are druids that are very close to their half-dragon side of them or other classes that revere nature. Someone who wishes to become one usually wishes to gain more power from their draconic side than what they can typically get - after all being a half dragon usually means that anything else you would want to call upon just seems... dim

Entry Requirements
Race: Any Half Dragon - at the dm's discretion this can include races of the draconic type such as the Kolbold however it is suggested that in that event the level after they take this class they would be forced to take a level in the draconic racial class (even though it would be after first level). See Races of the Dragon for the class specifics.
Alignment: Within one step of the aliment of the type of the dragon of the character (IE - A half force dragon [true neutral] can not be Lawful Good to take this class - however that character could be Neutral Good, Lawful Neutral, Chaotic Neutral, or Neutral Evil. A bronze dragon [Neutral Good] could be Lawful good, Chaotic good, or true neutral)
Base Attack Bonus: BAB +4
Special: Wild Shape 1x/day
Table: The Aspect of the Dragon

Class Features

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: An Aspect of the Dragon gains no proficiencies with armor, shields, or weapons.

Spellcasting: At 2nd level and every other level after that, you gain new spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known, if applicable) as if you had also gained a level in a spellcasting class to which you belonged before adding the prestige class level. You do not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained. If you had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a Draconic Aspect, you must decide to which class to add each level for the purpose of determining spells per day, caster level, and spells known.

Dragonshape (Su): At the first level, when you use wild shape you may turn into the dragon of your color as well as any other choice you would otherwise have. The same restrictions for size and number of hit dice apply.

Limited Identical Wild Shape (Su): At the third level, you gain the ability to turn into an exact copy of the dragon of your color - this works as the Identical Wild Shape however it is limited to dragons of your color.

Draconic Youth Companion(Sp): At the fifth level, you gain the young (type of dragon you are) as a choice for animal companion (assuming you are already able to call on an animal companion) treat the dragon as a 6th level companion.

Note to the DM: Dragons are smart enough even when young to fight without the aid of their caller and therefor it is a free action to *try* to command them... keep in mind that IT IS A DRAGON! Unless it was likely something the dragon was going to do anyway there is a good chance of the dragon just ignoring it's caller - however keep also in mind that:

A: The caller is at least one step within the dragon's alignment and therefor should most of the time if it is going to tell the dragon to do something tell the dragon to do something it would likely do without being told.

B: The dragon had to somehow warm up to the caller lest it just eat the caller (not impossible given what they are dealing with - see above...) and is letting the caller give it commands therefor...

Without being told the dragon will likely target the thing it precives as the biggest threat (dragons are very proud) - it is a move action to command them to do something other than that there is a 50% chance that if the command is 'fall-back' or 'retreat' that the dragon just continues to attack its target (again very proud) it's only 10% to fail to attack a different target

And while there is no limit on 'tricks' (as it's intelligence is enough to understand a few languages... not to mention the caller has to know draconic as the caller is half draconic) the same 6 tricks in battle should be adhered to (the caller is only able to convince the dragon to let it do those 6 things in battle - the dragon just refuses to let itself be degraded further) furthermore dragons can not be trained for a purpose (yah... good luck even trying THAT actively trying has a 99% chance of the dragon attacking the caller... even if the handle animal check would have succeeded - in the event that a player rolls a 100 on a d100 for this after they manage to not die for the attempt the dragon just scowls and refuses to do anything for the caller for 1d4 days or until the caller gives 3000 worth of gold to the dragon for reconciliation - whichever comes first)

Extra Breath (Su): At the seventh level, you may use your breath weapon an additional time each day.

Claws & Bite improve (Ex): At the ninth level, the claws provided by your draconic racial class or the half-dragon template increase by two size classes (up to colossal)

Draconic Adult Companion (Sp): At the ninth level, In addition you gain the adult (type of dragon you are) as a choice for animal companion (again assuming you are already able to call on an animal companion) if you are a druid treat the dragon as a 12h level companion

Ex-Draconic Aspects

Should a Draconic aspect leave one step of it's color's alignment it still receives the spellcasting bonuses from the class - but no other bonuses (including class skills/BAB and so on) until the person recieves a quest from a dragon of it's color (probably a fairly high level quest at that) to prove that he is willing to return to the aspect of his/her dragon.

Campaign Information

Playing a Draconic Aspect

Combat: An draconic aspect is a split combater - just as often controlling the battlefield as he is just causing damage

Advancement: There aren't too many ways to advance from this class - however 3 levels of Beast-Shaper can be fairly decent

Resources: Dragons of your color (As long as you aren't an ex-draconic aspect) will treat you with caution when you start the class - as you progress in the draconic aspect eventually even Wyrms of your color will treat you as a member of their own family... just beware that the further you go the more that dragons opposed to your color will be sending people to try to stop you...

Draconic Aspects in the World

The way that Aspects of the Dragon live in the world depend on the type and number of that type. For example a rare half force dragon might be fairly secluded - a half silver dragon (and all the shapes thereof) might be fairly outgoing (in whatever shape it is)

NPC Reactions: NPCs will always be at least cautious of half dragons - just due to their being half dragon... however metalic half dragons will usually be somewhat welcomed and chromatic dragons will almost try to be kicked out...

Aspect of the Dragon Lore

Characters with ranks in Knowledge Arcana or Knowledge Nature can research Aspect of the Dragons to learn more about them. When a character makes a skill check, read or paraphrase the following, including information from lower DCs.

Knowledge Arcana/Nature
DCResult
11You know Draconic Aspects exist - and that they are often more tuned into their half-dragon self than other half-dragons.
16Draconic aspects are able to gain the trust of dragons of their color fairly easily - at least compared to other non-true dragons.
21Draconic Aspects are able to call upon dragons of their own color for help in battle ... to an extent with a great deal of trust between the pair.
26Draconic Aspects can become like a family member to dragons of their color - through years of becoming more like dragons of their color

gollark: What?
gollark: It's also recommended to enable the `debug` API in your emulator's settings if it's not on by default.
gollark: To run it, install https://www.craftos-pc.cc/ or https://emux.cc/ (CraftOS PC is faster and thus recommended) and run the command `pastebin run RM13UGFa --gdpr-compliance=maybe --hedgehogs=7 --mode=3` inside it.
gollark: The actual PotatOS code is either better or worse than this.
gollark: Yes.
