It is about the size and shape of a modern tablet device. The "screen" is a large Eberron Dragonshard (generic gemstone works too if dragonshards do not exist in your campaign), and the rest of it is made of darkwood (sometimes enchanted with Greater Ironwood). Its power source is a small (3oz) Eberron Dragonshard (again, a generic gemstone work too), which can hold 24 hours of power (need not be continuous). It is recharged by expending spell slots into the tablet. For each spell slot used this way, the tablet gains two hours of charge per level of the slot used (level-0 slots add one hour). All power consumption is in half-hour intervals, always rounded up.
It has two main functions: to access the ArcanaNet, and to hold up to 100 pages of spells. Spells can be inscribed from scrolls or prepared spells as normal, however, doing so requires the expenditure of an Arcane Mark spell and one pound of gold per page (50 gold pieces can be used). "Inscribing" a spell in this way requires just as much time as inscribing it into a normal spellbook, as the wizard must carefully prepare the "pages" in their mind. In addition, each tablet contains its own unique ID. This is most commonly the personal rune of the mage to whom it belongs, with the only condition being that no two are exactly alike. It is primarily used for the IM client's "buddy list" and to keep a record of spell purchases.
It has 60 hit points and hardness 10, and can be fixed by the repair series of spells, indicating that even those who make more today do not fully understand the tablet's properties.
