Alchemy (5e Variant Rule)

The 5e Dungeon Master's Guide and Player's Handbook already provides a framework for budding alchemists.

  • Using the Crafting downtime activity and alchemist's supplies lets you make "mundane" items such as alchemist's fire.
  • Using the Crafting a Magic Item downtime activity lets you make potions.

For the latter, the DMG gives some guidelines: you need a formula, spell slots, the spell relating to the potion, and suggests you need alchemist's supplies. It also explains creation costs and crafting progress. But it's up to the DM to decide specifically what is required.

You can add to this page any variations you have on this process.
