Weekender distaff

Weekender distaff is a variable-period rake that fires gliders as it moves orthogonally at a speed of 2c/7. It was constructed by Ivan Fomichev on May 22nd, 2014.[1]

The distaff rake consists of an LWSS/pi-heptomino/Herschel/glider signal loop of period 16982+224*n, where n is the number of additional pairs of 9c/30 pi conduits added to the loop. Periods of the form (16982+224*n)/q can be trivially constructed by including q signals in the loop. For instance, a p1743 rake can be created using ten signals circulating in a p16982+224*2 = p17430 loop.

The loop uses a slow salvo construction of an edge shooting LWSS seed, so the rake can be adjusted to a wide variety of periods. However, some periods would require significant redesign of the loop, because of collisions between slow-salvo construction gliders and passing LWSSes.

A slight modification of the pattern on May 27th allowed more closely spaced signals in the loop.[2] For example, the newer design allows fifteen signals to be packed into a p17430 loop, resulting in a p1162 rake. The RLE and info box reflect this revision.
