Despite being composed of two oscillators of smaller period (3 and 8 respectively), it is considered non-trivial because it has two cells that are alive in one generation and dead in the other 23, and two more otherwise period-8 cells that are alive in one additional generation.
Commonness
On Catagolue, it is the second most common period 24 oscillator, being less common than the similar boring p24.[1]
The uninteresting p24 first appeared naturally on January 25, 2016, in a soup found by Apple Bottom.[2]
gollark: I really love the interaction of at least three problems here.
gollark: Why is the framing format so convoluted?
gollark: How does *any* of this *ever* work?
gollark: I have unfortunately had to interact with email for my email to RSS bridge.
gollark: Make sure to do all your checks at least 3 times so there's redundancy in case one is removed by compiler optimisations.
