Engine

An engine is the active part of an object, particularly a puffer. For example, the switch engine is the active component of the block-laying switch engine, glider-producing switch engine and Corderships. Other notable examples of engines include the Coe engine and Schick engine, both of which can be perturbed to form puffer trains of various periods.

It is also the active part of a oscillator or a gun.
