Installation

Before installing it is necessary to modify some UEFI Settings. They can be accessed with when booting.

Dual boot

Please note that changing from "RAID" to "AHCI" can break the default Windows installation and require a complete reinstall. Usually running windows own startup repair utility however fixes this issue in most cases. Another alternative is to follow this guide.

The reinstall can be done through the Dell recovery in the UEFI if needed.

Once you used the startup repair utility or have reinstalled, Windows should boot normally in AHCI mode and without error. Then one can proceed with typical dual boot setup.

Audio

The device is equipped with 2 bottom firing speakers and 2 top firing speakers. As of Linux 6.0.x, the bottom firing speakers work out of the box, however the top firing speakers do not work. This is due to incorrect default pin output and DAC configuration: pin 0x17 is disconnected by default.

As of December 2022, a kernel patch fixing this issue has been created and merged into the sound subsystem. It is expected to be mainlined in 6.2, but may be backported to 6.1/6.0.

Until release, the patch can be applied during a custom kernel build.

Internal microphones and external microphones work without issues.

Power Management

See Hibernation for kernel parameters & initramfs configuration.

S3 Sleep is not supported. S0ix however works reasonably, loosing roughly 0.5% battery per hour. Sata mode "RAID" needs to be changed to "AHCI" for S0ix to work. Without S0ix activated the laptop looses around 2% battery per hour.

Both NVIDIA's proprietary driver and nouveau reliably disable the NVIDIA card.

Fingerprint reader

Works well after enrollment with fprint.

gollark: Circular references would be GCed.
gollark: Garbage collection would make that somewhat harder, though you could just make it make a really long array or something.
gollark: With extensions anyway.
gollark: Not infinite, but big.
gollark: Regxes can take stupidly large amounts of time to execute.
