Tom Clancy's The Division

A 2016 video game.

In the near future, a virus spread through dollar bills causes a smallpox epidemic through New York City, United Sates. As the disease causes more victims, the violence also grows. With the police and other emergency services unprepared to deal with chaos of such scale, the United States Government decides to activate a group of sleeper agents to take care of the situation, the titular Division. Their mission: put an order on the chaos.

Developed by Massive Entertainment. Published by Ubisoft.

Tropes used in Tom Clancy's The Division include:
  • Action Girl: The player character has the option of being one.
  • Apocalypse How: Class 0, actually very well quarantined in Manhattan.
  • After The End: By the time the game tells you to design your character and you begin to play, New York is already a half-abandoned, half-Third World's metropolis giant piece of metal.
  • Bring Me My Brown Pants: A hostage says that was happening to him before you arrived to rescue him.
  • Crapsack World: Manhattan has become a mini-version of it, full of crime and who isn't dying from bullets is dying from the virus.
  • Government Conspiracy: The titular Division is a inversion of this trope, a benevolent group of seemingly random people tasked with restoring order in the middle of a virus outbreak.
  • Hypocrite: Gordon Amherst talks about "helping" Mother Nature in improving her creation, these creations being the smallpox virus, like humans aren't natural living beings that evolved like any other species to try to survive in Earth.
  • The Plague: The Dollar Flu, called that because it was transmitted initially through dollar bills.
  • Third-Person Shooter
  • Uplay
