Let's Go Jungle!: Lost on the Island of Spice
Let's Go Jungle!: Lost on the Island of Spice is a rail-shooter, in which Big Creepy-Crawlies attack from the front and players are required to shoot them with a gun. At some points of the game, the player must perform special tasks such as moving the gun in a certain direction, tapping buttons quickly, or tapping the buttons at the right time.
Ben and Norah, whose relationship is floundering, tour an island in Asia. However, they find that mutant giant animals are wreaking havoc, and they are desperate to escape.
In the course of their adventure, Ben and Norah learn the story behind the island. According to a local boy of the island and a helicopter pilot, an environmental NGO called "Green Leaves" came to the island after it was devastated by war. Following the motto of "bring back the green", scientists of Green Leaves discovered a species of mushroom that possessed extraordinary biological regenerative properties. The scientists extracted and refined the mushrooms' essence, creating a powerful chemical extract that could accelerate biological growth. In cooperation with the island's natives, Green Leaves used the chemical extract to restore the island's fauna and flora within five years. However, it was later discovered that the extract's properties were too powerful, resulting in giant-sized animals, insects, and plants that have the capacity to harm humans. Green Leaves and many of the island's natives evacuated the island when events grew uncontrollable, although a number of natives decided to remain behind.
Gained a sequel called Let's Go Island: Lost In the Tropics set on an island whose wildlife has gone crazy. You play as a vacationing woman named Beth and her lackluster guide Zack as they get roped into combating them while having to deal with pirates who are only interested in getting treasure.
- Attack Its Weak Point: In order to damage the bosses effectively, you will need to shoot multiple targets on their body in a limited time. Failing to do so results in a lot of damage.
- Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: You fight against a Giant Spider, Giant Frog, Giant Mantis, Giant Man-Eating Plant, and a giant butterfly.
- Big Creepy-Crawlies: All the villains (save the piranha, frogs and Man-Eating Plant) are this.
- Blow You Away: The Giant Butterfly flaps its wings hard as a Desperation Attack, blowing off Ben and Norah from the helicopter. Cue the final Press X to Not Die Sequence...
- Bottomless Magazines: Your rapid-fire rifles will NEVER run out of ammo. A good thing, because you'll be swarmed with lots of Big Creepy Crawlies.
- Chekhov's Gun: At the end of the third stage, the little boy gives you his charm, which supposedly wards off the Big Creepy-Crawlies. Guess what you're going to have to use to kill off the Final Boss, a giant butterfly?
- Co-Op Multiplayer: Given that Ben and Norah, the two protagonists, are in a relationship, the game relies on (and, in fact, scores you) how well you and your friend work together, giving bonuses for shooting something about to attack the other player or both shooting the same target. Naturally, the Press X to Not Die sequences are built to destroy your friendship, as both players must perform well to succeed in them. You will receive a percentage after every stage and at your game's end on how well you worked together; the highest scores DEMAND perfection and synchronized cooperation.
- And to get the good ending? Yes, it all depends on one of those sequences.
- Note: A similar coop scoring system was seen in an earlier rail shooter from Sega, The Lost World.
- Crosshair Aware: For bosses, a ringed target will appear on the part that you have to shoot before the timer runs out. Destroying all the targets will cause the boss to flinch (and skip its attack), while taking too long will result in the players getting damaged.
- Deadly Upgrade: The next time you see the Tarantula boss, it has a lot of glowing fungi growing from it.
- Downer Ending: If you fail the Press X to Not Die sequence at the end. Ben and Norah break up.
- Frogs and Toads: The River Cruise stage ends with Ben and Norah fending off a large number of oversized frogs, as well as their leader, an even bigger one.
- Giant Space Flea From Nowhere: Pretty much all the bosses. The Final one takes the cake.
- Giant Spider: Pretty much what you'll be fighting about 50% of the time.
- Golden Ending: To get the good ending where Ben and Norah secure their relationship, all you need is to succeed in the timed sequence. Don't miss.
- Golden Snitch: Getting the good ending for the game all boils down to whether you manage to succeed in the final Press X to Not Die timed sequence.
- Killer Rabbit: You've been fighting a Giant Spider, a giant frog (or giant mantis), and a Giant Man-Eating Plant, all of which are predators in real life. The Final Boss, however, is a giant butterfly.
- Life Meter: How health is measured. Can sometimes feel pointless when successful boss attacks can deplete more than half of both players' health. Also, see above Goddamned Bats.
- Ludicrous Gibs: The fate of the giant bullfrog boss when you defeat it? It explodes into a disgusting green goo all over Ben and Norah.
- The third stage's boss also gets blown up, but there aren't exactly any gibs, because it's a Man-Eating Plant.
- Made of Explodium: The locusts from the sequel explode into flames when defeated by co-operative shot.
- Man-Eating Plant: The boss of Stage 3. It's also That One Boss.
- Piranha Problem: The River cruise stage has swarms of piranha fish that leap out of the water and try to attack the player.
- Press X to Not Die: Three kinds.
- Smashing Survival: The first kind is a button-mashing sequence where both players need to fill up a bar before time runs out.
- The second kind shows two arrows on the screen (one for each player), and each player has to point their gun in their direction given before time runs out. Usually, the direction given is the same for both players, but not always.
- The third (and most difficult) kind looks similar to a mechanical clock, with two arrow hands that spin into a lit-up area. You need to press the start button when the arrows go into the area, otherwise you fail.
- Guess which one the final sequence (that determines whether you get the Golden Ending or the Downer Ending) is?
- Pretty Butterflies: The Final Boss, of all things. But don't let that fool you, it will put the hurt on you with its ludicrous amount of hp, swarms of butterflies, cut you with its wings, and blow you off the damn helicopter!
- Recurring Boss: The oversized tarantula that attacks Ben and Norah at the start of the game attacks them again, two stages later.
- And in the sequel Let's Go Island, it's a giant octopus that does the same thing. Fridge Brilliance for the fact that both of them have eight legs...
- Ruthless Modern Pirates: Lampshaded. One of our heroes in the second game asks if the pirates they're trying to get away from in the first stage are of the romanticized ones of lore. The other explains that they most certainly are not.
- Seldom-Seen Species: Giant pillbugs and diving beetles are two of the enemies you face.
- Shout-Out: The Man-Eating Plant boss is based off a triffid, what with the Combat Tentacles and yellow flower.
- Super-Persistent Predator: Jeez, that giant spider really doesn't know when to stop. For goodness' sake, it attacks you as the first boss, the third Mini Boss, and right before the third boss.
- And in the sequel, we have that huge octopus.
- Trick Boss: After reaching the end of the third level, your attacked again by a weakened, mushroom-infested Tarantula that jumps at you. After killing it it lands on the patch of plants... and the toxin spray from its corpse turn the plants into the real boss.
- Zerg Rush: How the regular spider Mooks attack you. And of course, the swarm-based enemies!
