Gone to Ground

Gone to Ground is a Canadian-based webcomic in the Warhammer 40000 universe, created by Stefan Grambart and Josh Garratt.

It follows a group of Imperial Guardsmen, the Cadian 401st Irregulars, who end up doing a lot of "fill the gaps" deployments because of a clerical error in their unit totals. This is clearly going to be a comic work and may fill the gap that was be created when Turn Signals on a Land Raider finished last year.

There are some good jokes so far and has clear promise. Currently off line due to a virus but hopefully it will start to work again. In the new year the site restarted and is now working fine.

Tropes used in Gone to Ground include:

• Elites Are More Glamorous: Subverted by the protagonist regiment, the Cadian 401st Irregulars, who are stated in the 'About' page to be deployed to "fill-the-gaps" and rarely see through an entire war, instead re-deploying on crucial battlefields else where. This is not due to them being elite troops, but due to a clerical error which says they have 3,333.33 enlisted men, which gets them overlooked for primary deployment.
• Expy: Captain Haddock is in the Imperial Navy now? He's even named such.
• Four-Fingered Hands: Keeping in tune with the overall cartoony art style.
• Lighter and Softer: It's a web comic of Warhammer 40K. Of course, since 40K itself is a Darker and Edgier Grimdark Crapsack Universe, its still a little bit on the dark side.
• No Celebrities Were Harmed: As Orks.
• Nominal Importance: Subverted here. The Red Shirt in question is prevented from introducing himself by the arrival of the orkish 'weapon' that then kills him.
• Theme Naming: The Guardsmen are named after things you'd find in your kitchen (including food).
• Schedule Slip: Who boy, yes. At least the author is a good sport about it: The website has a banner cheerfully announcing "Updated Bi-monthly!" He's changed his art style recently, though, which should make it easier for him to produce new comics.

• We Have Reserves: An Subverted Trope for Captain Haddock here, since the average 40K fan would find non-examples of this trope an exception that proves the rule of it.
