Asura Series
The Asura series is composed of two little known 2D arcade fighting games (the first one, Asura Blade, was released in 1998, and its sequel Asura Buster was released the following year) created by a small company named Fuuki. It mostly revolves around weapons fighting and sorcery, and it's stylized backgrounds are surprisingly detailed and eye-catching.
Not to be confused with Asura's Wrath.
Tropes used in Asura Series include:
- Alice Allusion: Alice, natch.
- An Axe to Grind: Talos can turn his bottom half into an axe.
- Bare-Fisted Monk: Footee in the first game, Chen Mao in the second.
- BFS: Goat.
- Bishonen: Leon.
- Casting a Shadow: Sittara.
- Dual-Wielding: Lightning in the first, Leon in the second game.
- Expy: Several. Yashou may remind you Crono, another sword-wielding, Redheaded Hero, Rosemary's appearance is very similar to another Rose, and Goat can pass off as an evil Cloud Strife.
- Golem: Talos is supposed to be one of these, but his immense size makes him more of a Humongous Mecha.
- Hot Chick with a Sword: Rosemary.
- Incredibly Lame Pun: The small, undead character appropriately named "Zam-B" (Zombie).
- Jiggle Physics: Rosemary in the second game. Seriously, those things have a mind of their own.
- Katanas Are Just Better: Yashou.
- Leotard of Power: Rosemary.
- Lightning Bruiser: Footee, to the point where she's a borderline Game Breaker.
- Ms. Fanservice: Rosemary, a busty, sword-wielding babe who wears a skintight leotard. Even more evident in the sequel, where her already generous bust increase several cup sizes and gains Jiggle Physics that would make Mai blush.
- Necromancer: Alice.
- Ninja: Rokurouta in the second game.
- Playing with Fire: Yashou.
- Sexy Walk: Rosemary.
- Shock and Awe: Lightning.
- SNK Boss: Curfue. It has to be seen to be believed.
- Suspiciously Similar Substitute:
- Subverted. Leon was intended to be Lightning's replacement for the second game, but instead chose to give him an entirely different moveset and gameplay style.
- Chen Mao is this to Footee in the second game, due to complaints about the latter's "cheapness".
- Token Mini-Moe: Alice.
- Voluntary Shapeshifter: Nanami in the second game.
- You Gotta Have Blue Hair: Rosemary, Sittara and Alice.
