United People's Party Liberal

The United People's Party Liberal (abbr. UPPL) is a regional political party in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of Assam. United People's Party Liberal, consistently made endeavors towards resolving the imbroglio of Bodoland movement and for meaningfully ending the decade's long insurgency movement. After years of relentless efforts, finally, the third Bodo Peace Accord has been signed on 27 January 2020 with proactive support from UPPL. A new dawn of permanent peace and path of sustainable development with justice, dignity and equal opportunity emerged. UPPL as political platform emerged for genuine necessity felt by all sections of people irrespective of caste, creed, community, and religion with a clear declaration to work on. Providing justice on Political, Economic, Social Rights and Social Justice to all sections living in the region is one of the main objectives of the party. While celebrating the permanent peace all around, people of Bodoland Territorial Region now is desperate to establish an accountable and transparent government free of corruption and favoritism. Each and every citizen of BTR wishes to have a pro-poor people's government. To this end, people of BTR across all walks of life have decided to replace the BPF ruled government by voting UPPL to power with thumping majority. In such an important moment of history, the founder leaders of the United People's Party, Liberal has decided to give the opportunity to lead the party especially to the signatories of Bodoland Territorial Region Accord for implementing its clauses and the party vision. Hence, the baton of leadership of the party has been handed over to a most popular, dynamic, charismatic and trusted youth leader in the region Mr. Pramod Boro, the former president to All Bodo Students Union. UPPL as political platform emerged for genuine necessity felt by all sections of people irrespective of caste, creed, community, and religion with a clear declaration to work on. Providing equal opportunity on political, economic, social rights and social justice to all sections living in the region is also one of the main objectives of the party.

History

In the beginning, the name of the party was Peoples Coordinate for Democratic Rights (PCDR). PCDR was formed by All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) and Peoples Joint Action Committee for Bodoland Movement (PJACBM)—in collaboration with the Pro-talk National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB). They contested the elections as an independent party, their founding president was Urkhao Gwra Brahma. United People's Party Liberal was formed on 5 August 2015 at Dotoma, in Kokrajhar district with a view to bringing about revolutionary change for sustainable development and lasting peace in the state of Assam particularly in BTR (formerly known as BTAD). The PCDR, which contested as an independent party, won seven seats out of 40 seats and made a strong opposition party. In the 2016 Assembly Election (Assam) they renamed their party as United Peoples Party Liberal (UPPL). At present Pramod Boro is the president of UPPL. UPPL is a registered party under the Election Commission of India Vide Regd.No. 56/163/2015-16/PPS-1.
