Stalled project and controversy

The project has been stalled since 2017, following a case of financial irregularities.[2] In 2019, ThePrint reported: " The structure [Kohinoor Square] has been mired in controversy since its inception. It has been a poster project for everything that can go wrong in Mumbai’s pricey, glitzy and sluggish real estate market — from changes in investors, project plans, policy and alleged violations to stop-work orders and financial troubles."[3]

Planning and construction

The architect and structural engineering company in charge of Kohinoor Square is the Indian firm SSA Architects, in collaboration with Gkkworks (USA).[4][5][6] The Indian structural engineering company Larsen & Toubro acted as the main structural engineer in collaboration with Siemens.[7]

Construction of the Kohinoor Square started in early 2009, with a completion date of March 2013, with a construction period of four years. Most of the time the construction remained on schedule. But later in 2012, construction slowed down due to the legation of the Floor Space Index on Car Parks with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation and design change from a full Office building to a Mixed use building.[8]
