Kimberley Land Council

Kimberley Land Council Aboriginal Corporation ICN 21 is an association of Aboriginal people in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. It was formed at a meeting at Noonkanbah Station in May 1978.[1]

The introduction of the Native Title Act in 1993 saw the KLC as the native title representative body for Kimberley traditional owners.[2]

In the years 1998 to 2007, Federal Court native title litigation was successful for the following claims:

  • Miriuwung Gajerrong
  • Karajarri
  • Tjurabalan
  • Bardi Jawi
  • Wanjina Wunggur Wilinggin
  • Rubibi

The KLC has also successfully negotiated consent determinations for a number of native title applications including the Uunguu and Dambimangari determinations made in May 2011.
